Best Sub to Go with B&W 802D's

    Hey guys:

I own the B&W 802 Diamond floor standing full range speakers. I'm considering getting a powered subwoofer to be used for movies, concert DVD's and occasionally DVD audio, and possibly for 2 channel CD audio listening (I'm still on the fence).

In your opinions and personal taste, should I go with a B&W sub (e.g., ASW 855) or should I go with another brand like Velodyne (e.g., DD-15), who dedicate all of their efforts into making the best subwoofers?

Anyone do any "AB" listening tests with high quality? If so, what was the outcome?

Which sub do you recommend and why?

I would like to keep the cost at around $3000 or lower.

One thing I never seemed to accomplish in my room (15 by 21 feet, ceiling is 20 feet high) with my old B&W sub, was that really deep but tight bass (i.e., a big t-rex stomp), and I would love to accomplish that in my home. Plus I love concert DVD's.

    Thanks so much!!!

are you strictly looking for commercially available or are you willing to build your own sonotube for instance

have you also considered 2 subs rather than just one?

last have you considered room treatments as no matter what sub you get will be subject to your rooms nodes and voids

Just looking for one sub and would like a commerically available one. Can't do treatments without divorce.

if you like the T-rex stomp, go for the SVS subwoofer. (FYI, SVS is coming out this year with a killer new Ultra model)

if you're gonna be using the sub for music and 2 channel listening, go for the velodyne. i'm still experimenting on mine on how to get the chest thump ... still trying to find the frequency to boost.

Check out the JL Audio Fathom F113 at www.jlaudio.com. It is a very well received sub for both music and video and it sounds awesome.

Rather buy than build? I just finished building my Rythmik and am very pleased with aesthetics and quality of sound from the unit!

Anyone using velodyne subwoofers with there B&W speakers. I am currently using a DD-12, but when I upgrade to the 803D or 804 diamonds, was thinking about adding a second DD-12 subwoofer to the system for HT, since you can usually find one at a decent price. Any experience with the velodyne subs...

I recently decided that I would buy a pair of B&w 602 s3's and was wondering what kind of subwoofer would match well with them. I have tried several subs from B&W and was very pleased but have heard many say that velodyne, rel, and other brands were more geared towards music.

I've owned this preamp for 3 months now and finally starting to calibrate it to my new IB subwoofer system I built.

                  1. Under subwoofer setup. I set the level for each surround format DD, dts
but the subwoofer still shows up as 0 when I hit the subwoofer button

                  Hey guys:

I own the 802D's and am about to take the plunge and purchase the HTM2D center channel. I'm a very happy camper at the moment, though my wallet isn't.

So, now I'm considering going all out and getting a powered subwoofer to be used for movies, concert DVD's and...

Now that our new HT construction is finished it was time to tune the system. Of course AVIA and the Rotel 1066 test tones were used to set speaker levels and check phase but what would any sub be without an ole trustworthy BFD? Well... I didn't build the perfect anechoic chamber so there's no doubt...
