    Calibration on 2CH?

    Hi There,

I'm about to purchase an SPL Meter and was wondering if calibrating the LEFT and RIGHT Channels are necessary for 2CH audio?

I understand this is more important when calibrating 5.1/7.1 home theatre, but what about 2CH?

    Thanks,
    Steve

If your receiver allows you to set levels for each channel, then it is worth doing. I don't know of any two channel setups that allow for that in the analogue domain, though. I have a DVD player that can be directly hooked up to an amplifier and that has level setting functions, so, in theory, I could do it for a two channel setup, but I don't know of any two channel integrated or pre-amp/amp or receivers that can do this.

I was thinking the same thing and actually tested this. When i set my Rotel RSX-1057 speakers levels I intentionally set the right speaker to -10db to see whether or not the levels are active during 2CH Bypass.

After testing they are actually active. When set to '2CH BYPASS" the right speaker was noticeably lower in volume in comparison to the left speaker.

Do some reading up on the Behringer DEQ2496. You can do some very top notch equalization/calibration with that. Thomas and other have discussed it somewhat in the DIY area, and there are numerous other discussions of using it this way a google away.

          Is CA5200 a flexible solution for 2ch/5ch audio/HT?
          by zele
I’m thinking about how to enter the high-end world of 2ch with an investment that is flexible towards 5ch audio and HT too. As far as the speaker is concerned I’m hesitating between 803D and 802D and I will decide based on their sound when I get both of them delivered for a demo to my house. It’s...

          JustMLS Calibration
          by fatmarley
          Hi Guys,

I've got JustMLS running through an M-Audio mobilepre USB and a calibrated ECM8000 microphone. I'm pretty sure it's wired up ok, because it seems to be working - Here's how it's wired up:

I'd like to calibrate it properly for two channel mode,...

LFE levels with internal test tones on 1098
          by Andrew Pratt
Can someone please try calibrating with a calibration DVD like Avia and then see how those levels compare to the 1098's internal test tones? I thought the 1055 and 1066 I had were pretty close to the avia test tones incl the subwoofer channel but when I tried it with my new 1098 I found the bass to...

          Volume Level Calibration
          by windmiller
This is my first Rotel (1057) and I am really impressed with the sound quality. I am working on calibrating it and came across an intersting situation that I wanted to see if others have experienced on Rotel or other receivers.

With other receivers I have always had to calibrate the volume...

          Subwoofer Calibration Question
          by whmacs
          Hi All,
A real quick sub calibration question. When calibrating a sub using the test tones (or a test disk) is it best to leave the sub's speaker adjustment level on the processor at 0db and use the sub's volume control to get a 75db reading on an SPL meter or; set the sub's volume to say 1/2...
