Sherwood-Newcastle R-771, Any opinions?

Hi all,

I've been considering buyinga SN R771 reciever. Everyone I've spoken to who has heard this reciever says it is an excellent reciever. My only problem is that everyone I've talked to has been an SN dealer.

Any real-world opinions out there?

Has anyone heard this next the the Yamaha RXV1600?

no experience with sherwood
as for the yamaha there is a newer model the rxv1700 that you may want to look at

generaly speaking most people perfer a comparable denon in sq to the yamaha
but the yamaha is easier to use

what other equipment do you own

Sherwood has experienced a bit of a resurgence in the past couple of years. I'm not familiar with the model you are looking at, but Sherwood has had some good reviews on various sites by pro reviewers and also by owners (Google is our friend). Now, I'm a Yammie-guy from way back so rather than put on my homie act, I'll just say whether you are interested in the Sherwood, the Yamaha, a Denon or whatever you'll get a good piece of equipment for the price.

Do you have the ability to go and listen to the models you are interested in? If you do, try to listen to the same CDs/DVDs on all the candidates and - this is the tricky part - if you can, do it with the same (or similar) speakers. Trust your ears, they'll be with you through all of this.
