Room Setup

I'm not sure this is the right place, but please excuse;

My room has terrible dimensions. The TV wall is 13 ft from the back wall. I have a 42' projection screen. There is no convenient place on the sides for "rear" speakers in a 5.1 setup. What are the best options for rear speakers? Right now they're mounted on the rear wall facing the TV angled down. I was thinking about switching the phase; would this do anything helpful?

You can either leave them on the wall or do some inceiling surrounds , if you can get up in the ceiling space.

First, with that small of room depth, I would actually probably recommend *against* rear surrounds. I think you'll be too aware of them during the movies, which defeats their purpose of being ambience surround channels.

But, if you want them, I would put them in the back wall, up against the ceiling, angled down 45 degrees or so.

I currently have these angled down at 45. Sometimes they're too much sometimes they're unnoticed. It depends on the movie and where you are in the room. Would switching the phase have any positive or negative influence? Also in a room such as this what would be the best location and direction for my sub?

Have you reduced their output on the receiver, I would try turning them down.

Just one thing immediately comes to mind.

Have you calibrated your speakers, with a SPL meter, or Room EQ?

Thank you for your reccomendations. I'm going to slowly try to work through some of those suggestions. Along the way I'm going to try to find a different location and a few other things.

Maybe some dipole/bipole surrounds along the backwall?
