opinions on hdmi purchase...

I did some moving around and need to replace my 6' hdmi with a 12'

i have a very hard time believing that a digital conect matters much more than being functional- not based on fact just my hunch

my only experience has been the monster 1000 series vs this freebe that came with the oppo.... needless to say I couldnt see a difference

Id figured Id ask though as many on here are proponents of exspensive coaxial cables

Might be worth it just for better build quality (superior connection, more durable cable etc) Otherwise, there should be little to know signal difference unless the cable is so poorly constructed that it malfunctions. Try sponsors Cat Cables or Parts Express for reasonably priced but quality examples

peter, with HDMI it really comes down to whether the cable carries the signal or not. So I use reliable HDMI cables that do not drop the signal over the length I require (25' for my projector) but are still very cost effective.

HDCP is a mandatory part of the HDMI spec, it is the encryption and handshake between the source and display. If your source applies HDCP to the signal, your display, as well as any switches of distribution amps in the chain, must be HDCP compliant for you to get a useable result a the other end. HDMI cables are by definition compliant, if they are built properly to the physical spec.

HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content protection) it is a copy protection method to eliminate intercepting digtal signals, and was designed by Intel Corp.

As previoulsy mentioned, you should be especially careful of long HDMI runs (I have a 10m run), that is where signal degredation/malfuncition may occur due to inferior build quality.
