Thinking of going from infocus x1 to x3 need some advice.

    Hello Everyone,

This is my first post on HT and I must say this is a great Forum site!

I got the home theater bug about 3 years ago...yes my wife thought I was nuts...until we sat down to watch our first movie. Now she won't watch one unless it's on the big screen...LOL

At the time I didn't have alot of cash [Never do] did my homework [reviews..ect] and decided on the infocus x1 PJ. I was very happy with it and still am, but I'm getting the itch to upgrade...

I have a few Questions and hopefully you can help a nubie out.

I'm thinking on upgrading to the infocus x3 [ i know, not in production anymore but can get one for a good price] reason being: 1100 lumens to 1700 lumens and 800x600 to 1024x768
Will getting the x3 make a big difference in picture quality?

I'm running component wire now, will i need to upgrade to HDMI? for better quality.

if I get a better dvd player then 480p will the x1 play it with componet wire [ like 720p or 1080i]

I have a lot more questions but don't want to overload anyone on my first Post...lol

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Personally I think the 4805 walks all over the X3 in terms of image quality, and it's a lot cheaper to boot. Just keep yourself seated at least 1.5x screen width away.

If a used 4805 around $300-350 doesn't float your boat, then pick up an IN72 (the same thing in a glossy black case) while they've got a $200 rebate going on (about $500 total after rebate).

The only thing I'd give the X3 is that it has better resolution if you use it with an anamorphic lens, but that will destroy your price point. Yes it has tons of light but if you're really looking at budget projectors how big can your screen be? You then get, for free, a really noisy unit (ok, in all fairness the other Infocus models aren't that much quieter), and really bright "black levels".

The next step up I would look at is an Optoma HD70 for $999. Possibly you could pick up a used last-gen LCD (Z4, AE700) for about $700.
