I do it based on (each in serperate area), video cables, audio cables, speaker cables, and power cables. Keep the speaker cables and power cables away from each other. -

Actually, if you can, keep the power cords away from all the other cables. And if you have to have the power cords cross the others, cross them at right angles..

I recently noticed a number of sites with instructions for building your own cables from cat5 network cable. My current set up is a Cambridge A1 amp, low-end Mission speakers (can't remember the model off-hand, but they're two-way bookshelf type mounted on stands). My current cables are some no-name... -

I'm a beleiver in good quality speaker wires, just not fanatic about it ...
So I'm passing thru Circuit City and they have a demo station set up for Monster speaker wire. You can switch between a 50 ft spool of their wire and one of some scrawny generic wire and hear the difference.... -
