    Speaker help

    Hi all!

I will be honest; I’m considering many speakers from different manufactures.
My room is a weird shaped (bonus room style). TV wall is 17’ wide to the room separator and another 15’ to the end, right side wall goes back roughly 30’ back to the kitchen. The ceilings are 8’ tall.
My listening habits are in the middle; I love music, but love a great action flick as well. I like music to sound on the warm side, but not too warm. Also, I already have two Def Tech Pro 100tl 10” 250w subs. My budget is roughly 1200.00 – 1400.00. I would like to keep it at 1200.00 (wife). What do you recommend?

    My components are as fallow,

    TV - Sony 36" KV-36FV27
    A/V Receiver - NAD T753 70wpc 7.1, 90wpc in stereo (true wattage)
    2 Ch Amp - Rotel RB-870BX 100wpc
    CD - Rotel 930AX
    DVD/DVDA - Panasonic DVD-A7
Pioneer DVD / SACD / DVDA

    Thanks all,

    Don
    TV - Mitsubishi 52" HDTV WD-52526
    A/V Receiver - NAD T753
    DVD - Denon HDMI 557
HD Source - Dish Network VIP622 DVR
    Speakers,
    Main - B&W DM602 S3
    CC - B&W LCR60 S3
    Rear - B&W DM600 S3
Sub - Def Tech PRO Sub 100 TL
    2 Chan Audio
    Amp - Rotel RB-870BX
    CD - Rotel930AX
    Speakers - MB Quart QLS530
Sub - Def Tech PRO Sub 100 TL

    Hi Don,

I'm assuming (yep, there's that word) that you're looking for a 5-channel set-up, correct? If so, Energy's Act and Take lines, Gallo's Micro and A'Diva lines, and PSB's Alpha line would be the first places I recommend you look. All of these speakers offer good sonics and bang-for-the-buck prices. If these don't work for you, we can suggest many more. Good luck and keep us posted.

A Gallo A'Diva 5.1 setup would be AWESOME! Those little spheres can really put out the sound. I love them and am really looking at getting the Gallo Reference 3.1 for my 2-channel setup.

Try to audition a Totem Acoustics 'Dreamcatcher' system... if you can purchase it without their sub, it should fit your budget.

Abovementioned Gallo and Energy very nice too... also look at NHT.

Thanks, I love Totem and Dyn's, but I'm trying to stay away from 4 ohm speakers. I currently have 4 ohm's that are very power hungry. I like Energy, but have found some of there lines to be too fatiguing to my ears. Not sure on the Gallo.

OK! Money has gone up to 1700.00 out the door. Size is not an issue. I prefer floor standing, but bookshelves are not out of the question.

            Thanks,

I can't pretend that 4Ω speakers won't be better with more power, but I'd suggest that your current setup seems capable enough for the Dreamcatcher, at least for the short term... speculative, really, as you're trying to fill a decidely large room with sound... it really helps, however, that you have two subs in place.

Tough to add restrictions, and stick to a budget, and still come up with something to satisfy a discerning music listener.

If all that is firm, I'll repeat my suggestion for NHT.

You might also look at Mirage... their specs are sorta 6Ω / 90db... I was very impressed when I first heard the line 10 yrs ago, but haven't heard current models.

Maybe Canton... Polk... I personally like Monitor Audio, but they may not meet your perception of 'warm'.

Or maybe just buy fronts for now, and go for better SQ... Dali, Vandersteen.

In any event, if you have well-developed tastes, you'll necessarily have to audition... ideally at home (easier said than done, obviously).

Double your budget, and I'll triple my suggestions...

Thanks for your help, it's funny, we all know what we want and like. It's just when we have to stick to budget, that is what makes it interesting.
I have thought about just going back to two channel for now then buying the center and rears later, but the wife does not understand that method.
                Thanks again,
                Don

I forgot to mention, I live in Reno, NV. Not very many choices for me to audition properly. I have considered on-line speaker company's, but just a little unsure. Only big things I have bought on-line is camera lenses.

I noticed that, thanks. A while back I listened to the diamond series and kind of like'em. I think I may go with this, what do you think?

I have found a local approved Klipsch dealer that sells out of his house that can get me great deals off of retail. I think I am going with the Reference series,

The general feedback from people who bought the newer series are having smoother sound. Even though you do not have a warm amp I believe they will work fine with your system :B
