    Carpet or hardwood flooring

My wife is bugging me about new carpet in our family home theatre room, but i'm considering hardwood because I love the way it looks. I wonder how much it would effect the sound in my room I've heard negative things about hardwood flooring. what ever I do is a done deal and will have to live with it.

    does anyone have hardwood ?

    any suggestions please

There's always a throw rug and/or big puffy ottomans, bean bag chairs etc to help reduce reflections.... One of our members recently installed cork flooring in his 2-ch room which is a sort of a happy medium between wood floorings appearance/cleanabilty and carpet's sound absorption.

I have hardwood in my room and used to have carpet. It was far better with the carpet but is not an issue with the hardwood either. I used a big thick rug between the couch and the display/ front speakers and it made a huge difference. The bass in my room is much better for theater since switching to hardwood and really transfers into the couch. Who needs Butt Kickers? Overall, I like the room better now but it's not a dedicated room either. When I build my dedicated room, it will be carpet for sure. I will just have hardwood accents all over the room as well as the stage.

I have hardwood right now, too.
it's not too bad but i think i'll have to get an area rug, soon, on it.
(I'll use the mirror trick to see where it should start/stop).
          EXCELLENT idea with the cork.
I've been looking into this as well. Seems like the way i'd like to go in the future.
i have 4 cats who all like to lounge in the theater with me.
I'm allergic to them so the dander always seems to hit me in the face.
With cork, i could keep it a lot cleaner and still have subtle textures in the flooring itself to help diffuse the sound out.
          good job boys.
now i wonder how much more money cork is over hardwood?

          cheers and happy hoho.

Carpet still has better acoustic properties. IP think that's what you should get. As for wood floor making bass "feelable", you might want to get a wood underfloor and then carpet on top.

              Hardwood Floors?
              by Race Car Driver
I have an older house, and recently found out there are hardwood floors under the carpet in my living room.
Im thinking I may end up yanking the carpet and refinishing them after the snow thaws. (twas a high of -6 deg today with a -37 windchill..... )

              Now my question is...

Moving my 804's from carpet to hardwood floor
              by SPACEMANRICK
We are moving houses and my B&W 804 speakers will be moving from carpet to oak hardwood floors. I have the spikes on the bottom of the speakers now but I assume that these will damage my hardwood floor. What do other forum members suggest that I put my speakers on to protect the oak hardwood floor?...

Accoustics in a small room with tile flooring.
              by tgrossner
OK next question. Accoustics: What are some of the tips and tricks to get better sound out of a room that has concrete/ceramic tile flooring? is there something to put down besides carpet or something? Today I was in a home improvement store and found 3x3ft sq "tiles" of a hard rubbery type...

spikes from 804's going through carpet to floor
              by SPACEMANRICK
I moved my 804 speakers from their spot on my area rug and noticed that the spikes had gone through the rug and put some small holes into my hardwood floor. I had my speakers previously on my area rug sitting on top of quarters but they seemed too unstable on top of the coins.

              Is there...
