    Velodyne SMS-1

So, what's the opinion on this unit?

Is it worth the extra money over the BFD?

    Retail Price - $750, Street price $600-650

Anyone have comments from the DD series velodyne subs?

ive not used the BFD before, but i own two DD's from velodyne and i can say that it makes a huge difference, and if you know what you are doing, its pretty easy to use and the adjustments are very flexible. i cant imagine using a sub without SOME sort of eq box like the SMS or BFD.

i never really liked the look and build of the BFD. i almost bought one awhile ago, and i would have, except for i was trying to find a place to hide it. it just looks hideous. so, maybe thats a plus to the SMS. all i can say, it works and it works WELL.

      BFD & SMS-1

I have not used the BFD but was about to get one, I heard it was built cheaply & diffcult to set up. I just got a Velo SMS-1 once you get around the manual, it sets up real easy even thou it has a few bugs at this time the guys at Velo are great to talk to and they are workin on the bugs........

There is a great uk website that covers velodyne stuff including the SMS-1 www.avtalk.co.uk They have some great discussions of the SMS-1 and the DD series. By the way, I have the DD-18..... All that I can say is "WOW" It kills my 6 month old REL Stentor for HT.

There's really nothing for $99 that can touch the processing power of the BFD.

If one really want's an auto-EQ function, then get the Behringer DEQ2496. They're $300, include a 61 band RTA, 31 band graphic EQ, 10 band parametric EQ and it can create shelving filters. This means one can create Linkwitz Transform circuits with it...... :T
