7.1 speaker placement- Music vs. movies?

I just got all new Rotel equipment (Yipee) and am starting the process of soundproofing and building out the room. I will have a 7.1 setup via the RSP1068. Dolby's speaker set-up calls for the side surrounds to be placed at 90 to 110 degrees to center speaker when pivoting at listener position. Rears are to be placed at 135 to 150 degrees. 5.1 music ideally demands direct radiators placed at 110 degrees. Movies desire the side speakers to be di-pole and the rears to be direct radiators or di-poles. With this side speaker conflict, should I resort to using my 150 degree placed direct radiators with music and compromise on placement or are there any other suggestions that may not be coming to mind. I really appreciate any comments.

    Thanx,

    Harold

What will you spend more time listening too?

I like directs for the side surrounds myself for music/movies then directs or di-poles for the rears. As for placement according to your post 110 degrees is fine for the sides for both music and movies so go with something close to that. I'm sure music won't be adversely affected if you put them at 100 or 95 etc either.

    That's what I'd do anyways

I'm making my way through Floyd Toole's book, "Sound Reproduction". So far, it has me some what shaking my head in disagreement, but that is another thread (and whom am I to argue with Floyd Toole?). One thing I just came across that I thought would be very helpful, because it comes up all...

I am trying to decide between a 6.1 and a 7.1 speaker set up in my new room. I have the amplification and speakers to do either so that's not the issue...what is the issue is speaker placement for both set ups. I have a door on my back wall which is right in the way if I were to set up two rear speakers...

I finally got my speakers and while I'm still shopping for a used amp (anybody who spots a marantz 5400, denon 2803 / 1804 or Yamaha RX-V1400 at ~ Cdn$500-700 I appreciate if you can let me know!) I have a dilemma with the placement of speakers in my room.

I have two sets of good quality Hifi systems (so I believe)

Question about passive radiators in full range DIY speakers
      by evilskillit
Ive "designed" a few subwofers. Aka put the TSP into Winisd and come up with a good curve and built them for friends HT systems and they all have been pretty happy. So far they have all been ported. I looked into passive radiators but it seems like its hard to get them to tune below 20hz and...
