    Choice of Amp

    Hello guys,

I've just purchased Definitive Technology's ProCinema 100 speaker set.
Now I have to make a decision about which amp to buy.
I've been looking at Harman Kardon 7300, Denon 3805, Marantz SR8400, Sony STR-DA3000ES.
Do any of you have a compelling choice for any of these amplifiers to drive my speakers?
I am lately leaning toward either Marantz or the Sony. I wonder if any of you can compare the two or pursuade me to buy one and not the other. I read some reviews about both amps, but have yet to find one that will sell me on either of them.

    Let me hear your comments.

    Thanks

David, the Def Techs are nice speakers. I personally do not like Sony AV Receivers. I had 3 of them and kept upgrading and upgrading and finally moved to the Denon 3805. I love the heck out of it.

    Great AV Receiver :T

I know a couple of people with the Denon 3805, and they seem to be very happy with it.

I also agree with Snap, Sony may make great tv's, but I am not ethusiastic about their receiver line, this is based on my previous ownership.

The best way to determine, is to listen for yourself, some dealers allow you to demo in your home.

Your mileage may of course vary.

      Regards,

      Arman

        There TV's Rock :T

I am not sure if this is true but I thought I read or heard before that Sony "fibs" on there amps power?? Has any one else hearrd that?

Either way still stand by my dislike for the receiver via prior owner ship of said named products!

Marantz is a good line too.

                Hello Maverick,

I don't know your speakers, but I have listened to the Denon 3505 when I was looking for a new receiver myself. I tested it in combination with a pair of B&W 602's, and compared it to a Pioneer 2014i (in america i think this is an elite receiver) and a NAD 763 receiver in the same price segment.

I thought the Pioneer and NAD sounded much better. The Denon sounded very sharp and boomy, and too much straightforward. I jumped up from my chair listening to the first guitar rifs of a Jayhawks song. Listening to the Pio and NAD was more smooth and natural (IMHO). I had listened to the Marantz receiver as well in combi with the B&W 602's. It had the same hiss as the Denon, but I have heard that Marantz and Denon have merged in 2002, so this could be the use of practically the same internal receiver components (but I am no specialist).

So, as a starter on this forum, I think you should give the Pioneer and/or NAD a listen too. The Pioneer might surprise you in a positive way. I ended up with one and are still very pleased after listening to it for 7 months.

                Good look with your choice!
