Oh, I think it is more than worth the money, and certainly wouldn't tell anyone not to buy the unit based on this. It's just a question of whether shrieking obscentities at the bravo for 15 minutes until I finally get it to play the movie but then watch it through with no distractions, is more or less frustrating than having the movie play instantly, but noticing little things in the image.

My newer Oppo also came up with english subtitles on at first, then with all titles off including Jabba's translation. It seems to me I recall them saying in the AVS thread that this was a sign of the older firmware but I can't recall. Do you remember?

Maybe I need to flash it.

Well, the thing would not play my AVIA disk without video freezing and stuttering, and the coax digital audio output developed dropouts and quit working altogether. Back this one goes as well. Asked for a refund this time. We'll see what happens, they don't have their return policy on the website anywhere.

How is this compared to Denon dvd-2200 in picture quality? dvd-2200 doesn't have DVI out , but componnent video. I'm just trying to determine whether or not i should get rid of dvd-2200 and get Oppo instead with DVI out. I have LCD rear projection TV (sony )
              thanks.

The latest firmware released 6/28 fixed the shimmering issue, and with the latest firmware, the picture quality is stunning.

BTW, the analog audio output quality is excellent.

                  I'd like to know too.

Can any of you Oppo owners comment on the audio quality, both DVD and CD?

                    Howdy all ye fellow nuts...

I've been hunting for a new universal DVD player to partner with my new Sony HD plasma [1024x768] with DVI (hdcp) input.

                    Considerations:
                    - 60% Movies / 20% SACD & DVD-A / 20% CD
                    - limited rack height, so can't consider the Denon...

                    by comeup
Before I bought the Denon 3910 I read alot of reviews about the macro blocking issue associated with Faroudja chips. It was suppose to be eliminated, but i've seen it on at least a half dozen movies. I returned a Pioneer Elit DVD 59 AI for the Denon what a mistake.Be careful when buying this dvd player...
