    You read right! :W

    Songs that give you......goose bumps!

    -------------

    Me first :

Nina Simone Wild is the Wind

This song has so much emotion to it....it's IMO emotionally draining when listening to it......When you are finished listening to this particular piece....you'll need a hug ops:

            Opening of ALSO SPRACH ZARATHUSTRA

Had a feeling George you'd like 'My Way'. It's one of mine too (I think I was weaned on it from my Italian parents).

Play Linda Ronstadt's "Greatest Hits Volume One" and you are bound to find at least three or four songs that bring goose bumps (in addition to "Blue Bayou").

Here are ten songs that give me goose bumps, bring tears to my eyes, rip my heart out, make me say “wish I could write one like that”… :>)

First Time Ever I Saw Your Face Dionne Warwick: Here Where There Is Love (LP)
Diamonds and Rust Joan Baez: Diamonds and Rust
Hello In There Joan Baez: Diamonds and Rust
I Dream of Jeannie/Danny Boy Joan Baez: Diamonds and Rust
The Night They Drove Ole’ Dixie Down Joan Baez: Blessed Are
Fountain of Sorrow Jackson Browne: Late For The Sky
Der Schildwache Nachtlied Gustav Mahler: Des Knaben Wunderhorn (perfomed by Christa Ludwig and Walter Berry with the New York Philharmonic condicted by Leonard Bernstein)
Goin’ Back Dusty Springfield: The Dusty Springfield Anthology - Disc 1
Yesterday When I Was Young Dusty Springfield: The Dusty Springfield Anthology - Disc 2
To Love Somebody Slobberbone: Slippage (song originally performed by The Bee Gees)

Some of the chill producing song for this old guy include:

Wake Up Little Susie - Every Brothers
Try a Little Tenderness - Otis Redding
Whipping Post - Allman Brothers (live at Fillmore version)
Words of Love - Buddy Holly
Reason to Believe - Rod Stewart
You Don't Realize - The Electric Flag
In The Midnight Hour - Wilson Pickett

I do very much like many of the listed songs so far though.

                            Me too, Dave.

That is a chillingly good song. The high notes Art Garfunkle hit in it was beyond belief and Paul Simon's lyrics sound as touching today as they did way back when.

Cool, George, not many people know the true name of that piece. (or that it continues past the first 30 seconds) Most just refer to it as the "Theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey"

All these are very good. Some of mine:

God Bless the U.S.A. by Lee Greenwood
                                          Imagine by John Lennon
Cat in the Cradle by multiple artists
Candle in the Wind by Elton John (the original, not the disappointing remake--I'll never understand that)
Hosanna Holy Holy by Phil Driscoll (he has a trumpet solo the 2nd half that makes you want to crank up the volume until your ears bleed)
Bad by U2 (one of my favorite songs by my favorite group--best version is on the Rattle and Hum DVD movie)
                                          CHRIS

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

While we are feeling patriotic, I'll add America as sung by Ray Charles.

Not to wear anything on my sleeve, nor to wave any flag - but I attended a Sarah McLachlan concert two weeks ago, and although I am not terribly impressed with her latest offerings from Afterglow (although I haven't heard the whole album yet), I'm always brought to a halt when I hear either of three of her songs.
The first is "Fear", where she excercises both her fabulously detailed range as well a her vocal dynamics, so much so that she can draw you inward to hear a melodic whisper and then immediatly set you on your backside with a full on raptureous sonic assault. It was terrific to see the effort she put into this song at the concert - as if she knew that the day that she may not ever be able to do that again couild well be the next sunrise.

The second is "The Possesion" from Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, where as I understand the lyrics refer to a frightening incident in her life that involved dealing with, locating and charging a stalker that was causing her some grief for a long while.

The third one is also from Fumbling', called appropriately "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" (although the title doesn't appear in the lyrics of the song) - her live version is a more up-tempo rendition of an almost regae beat hidden in
the midst of a vocal driven song.

I wasn't trying to exhalt my patriotism regarding Whitney's version of the U.S. National Anthem. It is simply her rendition that brings me goose-bumps. So very many people try to sing that song and it is near impossible to pull off as it is so difficult. She simply took this song to another level and unless I hear an opera singer singing it, no one else can compare since I got used to her version. Her range and strength was phenomenal.

For me, the same can be said about 'My Way'. This song was written by Paul Anka and when he sings it, to me, it comes no where close to when Sinatra sang it. Some songs, I agree, sound goose-bumpy no matter who sings/plays them but some songs simply sound far better from some artists than others. I guess I could lump in with this, 'New York, New York' --- this is another goose-bump song for me yet to me, no one sings it better than Sinatra (sorry if I offended any Liza Minelli fans!).

Sorry Jimmy, I wish I hadn't started my post the way I did now.
I did see Whitney, and you are correct in your summation of her performance.

I can't really take back what I wrote, but I can confirm that I didn't mean to slap anyone for being patriotic, everone is entitled to be so.

I should merely have said that Sarah is one of the artists (of late) who gives me chills, who just happens to be Canadian.

Please accept my appologies if I had offended you (or anyone else, for that matter).

No apology needed. I perhaps wasn't explicit enough when I typed in my initial response as so many people have sung the National Anthem and are rather poor at it (forget Roseanne's version altogether!). It allowed me to clear up what I intended to write from the onset.

I was not offended by the comment but your comment did elicit a response for me that I needed to tidy up what I was trying to convey.

I agree... the US national anthem is tough to sing, and Whitney did it very well. My only question would be if that one particular performance was truly live, or lip-synched to something she sang in a studio once. Either way, there's no doubt that she's the original singer of that particular performance, at one time or another.
