The Jazz Channel presents: Keiko Matsui (DVD)

I've heard this artist a few times on the radio, but never sat down to give a good listen to.

Keiko Matsui is breathtaking. Her outstanding skill as a keyboardist, is only surpassed by her talent for mixing jazz and new age sounds. I found myself really getting into her music and the power that she presents while playing.

The disc boast three tracks from which to choose (2.0, DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1). I choose the DTS. While it did an awesome job of producing clear controlled dynamic sound, the mixer should have been shot. There a several times that what you saw on sceen, did not relate to it's speaker placement.

The video is pretty darn good. It showed some softness here and there but, it was very clear and detailed through most of the disc.

This was a rental but, it will be a purchase!

      Hey PJ,

I recall listening to a track titled "Bridge Over The Stars" (which was nothing short of awesome!) but, I don't remember hearing one entitled "Bridge Over Dreams". Maybe I misunderstood the track...hell anything is possible! :B

This is a very fine disk. Keiko just barely misses my "five CD's or more" category of top artists- more through negligence on my part, than lack of talent on hers!

For those who enjoy this and similar music, I can strongly recommend the Sessions at West 54th Street. Vol. One includes Wynton Marsalis, Suzanne Vega :-y, Richard Thompson, Rickie Lee Jones, Keb' Mo' :-y , Emmylou Harris, Yo-Yo Ma :-y and others.

Vol. Two features the Kronos Quartet, The Mavericks, Lyle Lovett, Natalie Merchant :-y , Randy Newman, Lucinda Williams :-y , Lou Reed, Neil Fin, the Afro-Cuban All Stars :-y , and others.

An eclectic mix of good music and generally fine performances.

        Regards,

        Jon

Hey guys, I'm glad to see that I'm not alone with feeling floored by this performance. I felt as if I was there.

            Jon,

Thanks for the tip on West 54th st. I'll check that out.

            PJ,

It's ok my friend, as long as we figured it out, that's what matters.
