    Any Doobie Brothers Fans Around?

Hey. Any Doobie Brothers fans lurking around this forum? Come out, come out where-ever you are. . . . Ah, fond memories - I got to see their farewell tour stop here in Houston in 1983 (?) and then got to see the reunion tour 5-6 years later (1989?), with Tom Johnston, Tiran Porter and most of the old faces back together. Such excellent music, such great vocals.

You know what David, I like the Doobie's. But, I don't own any.

Man, I can't afford to own everything that I enjoy! :B

Oh yeah, the Doobies. Been a while on them. I used to like them a lot years ago. I am sure would still enjoy their music some. Don't think I have any Doobies either.

Let's see, what do I have lying around?

        The Doobie Brothers
        Toulouse Street
        The Captain And Me
What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits
        Stampede
        Takin' It To The Streets
        Livin' On The Fault Line
        Minute By Minute
        One Step Closer
        The Farewell Tour
        Cycles

The strayed from their early sound when Tom Johnston left (due to health problems) and Michael McDonald started. It was more of a pop thing and while it was okay to listen to, it didn't have that "Doobie" feel to it. No puns please! Eventually Michael moved on and things headed back to a more pleasing sound, including the return of Mr. Johnston.

If I had to pick one song to show their range, I'd have to go with I Cheat The Hangman from the Stampede album. It's musically intricate with very good vocals, with passages ranging from soft and quiet to some good rockin' guitar, brass, percussion, and it tells a good story.

Give it a listen some time. :T

Well, I own the "Best of the Doobies", if that counts. One of the early CD's I bought. Just love China Grove and some of the others.

"Doobie Brothers"... what a great name.
