I picked up two new jazz titles which are hybrid SACD's; they have both SACD and CD layers, so they play on conventional CD players, also.
Spyro Gyra's "In Modern Times" is a multichannel SACD with a dedicated stereo mix to boot. It's fairly typical of their work; lucsious sonics, nice chops, but of course, in the smooth jazz mode. It makes good background music as well as something lighter and relaxing to listen to. The multi-channel version is six channel discrete, not 5.1. The original recording is DSD, so the sonics are pristine, and the CD layer is pretty remarkable, too.
On the Telarc label we continue the pure DSD recording mode, with a new release "The Very Tall Band" from Oscar Peterson, featuring Ray Brown and Milt Jackson. This was recorded live at the Blue Note using Sony DSD recorders in 1998. Sonics are also first rate on both the SACD and CD layers. This is a great performance from these guys, especially if you like a live feel to your recordings- such as some of the recent Patricia Barber. Very recommended.

Jon
