On this end of the world it's been mostly Kitaro that has been run in the CD.

Glad to see people listening to aperfectcircle.
This band has alot of talent...and it's good to see the mellower side of...who ever the singer is that ties aperfectcircle to TOOL.

Lighthouse Family is a two person vocal group that plays a type of Soul that has an introspective mood. I do believe they are from Newcastle, England.

One of my favorite songs is "High" On their "Post cards from Heaven" album.
They did a very nice cover of Bill Withers, "Ain't No Sunshine" on the Notting Hill sound track.

Well since I got my new mega changer I've found myself listening to a lot of CD's that I forgot I owned which is cool...its amazing what comes up when you just hit random and walk away Still I'd say that Loreenna McKennitt, Holly Cole, U2, Rod Stewart, and Jesse Cook would rank high on the most played list.

I too have been enjoying alittle Diana Krall.
Marillion is a band that never really got the credit they deserved, "Misplaced Childhood" is one of my all time favs.

A Marillion fan! (I almost mentioned Steve Rothery's name in the 'guitarist' thread, but I figured nobody would know who I was talking about.) I've pre-ordered two copies of their next album - enough of us did this that they are going to make it without the meddling of any record company - how cool is that.

"Missplaced Childhood" was my introduction to them. Since then I've seen them in concert three times (once with Fish and twice with Steve H) and I've seen Fish on his own three times. They've done some great stuff since Fish left, but over all I prefer Fish.

Marillion partially gets the credit they deserve - just not in the U.S. But then, have you listened to the radio lately?

I've only got one Marillion disc with Steve Hogarth (spelling?) as the singer, and that's "Holidays in Eden", really doesn't stand up to any of the discs with Fish.

The musical tastes vary so greatly, but in the 5 disc changer now is:

                                        Dave Matthews
                                        Gus

Check out Christy Baron, she does some excellent renditions of a variety of songs. I have two of hers: "I Thought About You" and "Steppin'" (I think that's all there are) and enjoy them both (there is a track or two on "Steppin'" that I find a bit odd, but not a 'skipper'. Both of these are Chesky, so the sound is good too.

Tom, is that a jazz CD, or popular music?

The CD "I Thought About You" is popular music, but the CD "Steppin'" is definitely jazz oriented, though I don't think it's in the jazz section of Chesky's catalogue. From the liner notes: "...it's a jazz-oriented album that is quite mindful of pop, R&B, and electronica, as well as world music. I prefer "Steppin'", with its jazzier feel.

Some of my favorites songs are 'Mercy Street', 'This Must Be Love', and 'She's Not There'. I feel safe recommending this album to you.

I saw Alan Parsons group perform last summer as an opening act for Yes. They put on a great show. But by far the largest ovation they received was when Ian Bairnson stepped up and took one of his great melodic guitar solos. I think Bairnson, who has been with Alan Parsons since the beginning, is one of the greatest little-known guitar heros around. I should enter him in the "Greatest Guitarists" thread which is active on this board!

                                                        Tom R S 4,

Let me give you a clue of how big an Alan Parsons fan I am, I own every Alan Parsons CD except his live CD. I even own both versions (the original LP and remastered CD version) of "Tales of Mystery and Imagination".

                                                        Dave,

A few years back I saw Alan Parsons with Kansas. One of the best 3 hours I ever spent at a concert. What amazed me was the fact that Alan Parsons sounded impressive live which can not be said for a great deal of bands that do live gigs.

                                                          Michael,

I've only got 13 Alan Parsons and Alan Parsons Project CDs (including the live one ), and I also have a CD of Andrew Powell and The Philharmonia Orchestra (Mo-Fi Original Master) doing Alan Parsons (Not the best orchestral arangements of popular music, but the point is I'm a fan). I also went to Barcelona a number of years ago, while visiting my brother in Berlin, because of Gaudi (WELL worth it.).

I also saw Alan Parsons with Kansas that year. (The first concert I ever went to was Kansas in '79.) (Oops, now you might think I'm old.)

                                                            Guys,

You've got me curious about Fish's solo albums. Which would you say are the best, and how close are they to the Marillion groove?

You probably know this, but Pete Trewavas, bassist for Marillion, played on the Transatlantic album (whom I listed above). Also, I have Marillion's original drummer, Mick Pointer, playing on a couple of albums with a group called Arena - definitely worth a listen. Alas, they are not distributed by a major label so they are a little tougher to find.

BTW - I have 8 or 9 Alan Parsons CDs (including On Air in DTS), and by Marillion I have "6 of 1" and "Radiation". A friend just lent me "Misplaced Childhood". He's building up their complete collection, and has lent me several others. Eventually I'm sure I'll get more of them for myself.

                                                              Dave,

Your asking about Fish, a subject I'm fond of. (I've seen him solo three times - excellent showman - and once with Marillion, and I've seen Marillion with Steve H twice.)

Fish has a few live releases and some releases with re-mixes, so I have 13 of his - six of which are studio sets with entirely new music (my brother has more, but how many live CDs do you need?). My favorite two are probably "Suits" and "Sunsets on Empire". I think the first few; "Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors", "Internal Exile", and "Suits, are the closest to the 'Marillion Groove' as you put it. He isn't exactly following in the footsteps of what he's done before.

I'm still a fan of Marillion, although I generally prefer Fish's music over the last few Marillion releases, of which, counting the remasters of the original eight studio releases, I have twenty-five (& at least ten of those are two CD sets - I'm a nut )

What the world needs is more Fish!
