The best live rock albums of all time

I'll start the ball rolling with this one - Little Feat's "Waiting for Columbus".

This is a remastered double CD release of two concerts in 1978, one in Washington DC and the other in London.

What a great band! Lowell George's premature death was a tragedy.

That is a great live rock album. I have the Mobile Fidelity pressing and it rocks.

Hey, I love Waiting For Columbus too!!! Have it on vinyl and CD. The thing that annoys me is that they left Don't Bogart That Joint off of the CD, I guess to fit it onto one disc.

My favorite two would be the aforementioned Allman Brothers Live at Filmore East, which I was going to put on tonight to spincycle to...even before reading this thread and Van Morrison's Too Late To Stop Now.

Another favorite are the first 5-6 songs on Clash's From Here to Eternity and disc 2 of Pink Floyd's Pulse.

One is from that great voice Sam Cooke Live at the Harlem Club and the other is Jerry Lee Lewis Live at the Star Club.

Oh, crap, just two more: Bela Fleck and the Flecktones Live Art and Johnny Cash at San Quentin.

I know I'm rambling on, but I really do love each and every one of these.

I forgot about Pulse, it is good. Isn't Echo's a compilation of live Pink Floyd? It is my favorite album of theirs.
Johnny Cash was a good call also. BB King has a similar excellent album.

I don't own Echo's. I know it's a compilation, but didn't know it was live.

"Don't Bogart That Joint" is Track 2 on Disc 2 of the remastered CD that I mentioned above. It's 1:01 long (the track, not the joint).

I might just try to track down a used copy of the CD for the completist in me. Not that that's the best track. Little Feat gets into an absolute groove during much of the whole CD. What an amazing assemblage of stunningly good musicians.

From my late teens to my early forties my favourite live rock album was "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out" by the Rolling Stones, recorded at Madison Square Garden in 1969. Then I got over-exposed to the Stones and went off them.

My reduced interest has been reinforced over the past couple of years by watching a number of Stones concert DVD's. Basically over the past 10 years they've performed the same concert; only the props have changed.

Then a couple of months ago I watched "The Stones in the Park" (also from 1969) and my faith was restored. I was saved by the vitality of youth! So I'm now happy to restore "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out" to its rightful place as one of the best live rock albums ever.

The red haze that comes from having seen them adds an emotional factor which admittedly clouds my judgment.

But when I listen to live music, this is what I want it to do. Either take me to a place I have never been but makes feel like I was; or to a place that I have been, and relive the wonderful memories of that moment.
Besides, through the pure heathen act of bringing their guns, all chambers loaded, they broke the rules, and as a fan, I have to like that!
