Almost forgot the James Gang's best album..."Rides again".
Goose, who is "Blech", and what type music do they play...I'm always up for something new. The list I made earlier, I rarely listen to any of it...I have them all (and many more) but I tend to listen to newer stuff.- Bottom

I said "blech" because the lists contain a lot of so-so stuff. How about naming the albums that really mattered? The ones that really opened new doors, that added to the evolution of rock? There are albums that changed the way we thought of rock. I contend that only those albums need be in everyone's collection.
It's certainly subjective but you can't tell me anything by Papa Roach, Judas Priest, Fuel, Little Feat, Styx, Foghat, etc, etc fall into the category I describe above. They might be personal favorites but nothing any of these bands did really made any meaningful impact.
I'd like to see new lists with the really big life-changing albums.

My 'evolutionary' list would include:
Nirvana - Nevermind (it's a grunge thing)
Van Halen - Van Halen (80s rock in the 70s)
Guns 'n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction (ended 80s rock...great album)
Metallica - Master of Puppets (popularized the heavier stuff)
NIN - Pretty Hate Machine (popularized an industrial element in rock)
I'm not happy with the list but at least I gave it a shot.

Well the thread was about must haves in a rock cd collection and I contend that although Little Feat did not have a major impact, they certainly make me boogie in the kitchen.

John (wireless), I Believe it was "Live at Filmore East". I could be wrong. But since I played most of that LP in my band, I sort of doubt it. I would like to add to that "Eat a Peach".
Also, don't think anyone mentioned Led Zepelin Houses of the Holies. Did they? That's simply a must have right there with Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon.
Really in terms of legendary status, my 5 LPs of choice would be:
Led Zep HH
Pink Floyd DSM
Beatles White, Seargent Peppers
Eric Clapton Layla
If I added a 6th, Filmore East. Of course, we could add some Creedence Clearwater Revival, a little Doors, and of course some Erice himself, like Cocaine!
Of course, this is all relative too, to the age of the person, or how deep into the past the young guys really dug down in the bottom of the rock pile. NPI. Having grown up while these albums were introduced, I believe them to be classics.

Doug - For accuracy's sake, just looked up the LP.
"The Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East"
I would agree with your assesment as to the realtionship to the listener's age. Also add Beatle's Rubber Soul and Beach Boys Pet Sounds. Paul Simon's Graceland.

Most of the titles listed in this thread pretty much make up the collections of my 3 sons who are now in their thirties and forties. As for me, all the Santana and Dire Straits albums with a little Deep Purple thrown in.
