    Turntable Left Channel Out

Hello everyone. I have a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon w/2M Red cart. My left channel is nothing but hum. I tried moving the ground cable from the pre amp to the power conditioners main ground. Tried using the turntable without the ground cable. Tried re balancing the tone arm. Looked at all the connections I could find, which were the carts connections, and I opened up the box that the RCA's are on. I'm fairly new to vinyl as this is the latest addition to my system. I've had it for 9-12 months with no problems. In at a loss as to what to do. Help please!

It's gotta be either a bad cable, the pre-amp, or pickup. So try and narrow it down... Is the hum still there is you swap out the RCA cable? If, when you disconnect the TT from the pre-amp, the hum is still there, your pre-amp could be the fault. If, when you swap TT into pre-amp L/R channels, the hum moves, your pickup could be faulty. You could use this as an opportunity to upgrade your pickup

Also, what do you mean by swap out into the pre amp L/R? Do you mean input the RCA's coming from the turntable into any input other then the phono?

Are you using a phono input in the Rotel from the TT?

Switch the right & left rca cables at the TT & see if the bad channel (hum) moves from left to right.

I believe Mike is referring to your cartridge.

Yes it's in phono. And when I switched the cables the hum/fuzz channel moved to the right channel :s

Try replacing the rca cable that is associated with the bad channel.
Any rca cable you have laying around is fine. You simply want to verify that the original cable is not faulty.
If the signal returns to normal, you have a bad cable.

If not, then double check the connections of the tone arm wire at the cartridge pins.
Be careful here, the terminals & cartridge pins are fragile.
If that does not fix things, the problem is likely the cartridge itself, or a bad wire or connection with the tone arm wire.
If you have continuity tester you can check each wire.
Unplug each wire at the cartridge & check from the cartridge pin terminal to the rca terminal on the TT.

Ill try that. Thank you. Typically, what are the warranties on turntables & carts?

Ahhhh.......due to the inherent fragility of carts......V unlikely.
But do see if your dealer is willing to work with you.

Some manufactures offer some minor discount when you send in a worn or broken cart if you are purchasing a new one.
However, IMHO, if the cart does end up being the culprit in this case..........
My suggestion would be to make the best of the situation & see this as an opportunity to upgrade.
