Welcome to cyberspace, I'm lost in the fog
    everything's digital I'm still analog
    when something goes wrong
    I don't have a clue
some 10-year-old smart ass has to show me what to do
Sign on with high speed you don't have to wait
Sit there for days and vegetate
I access my email, read all my spam, I'm an analog man.

the whole world's living in a digital dream
    it's not really there
    it's all on the screen
makes me forget who I am
    I'm an analog man

Yeah I’m an analog man in a digital world
I’m gonna get me an analog girl
Who loves me for what I am.
    I’m an analog man

What's wrong with vinyl, I think it sounds great
LPs, 45s, 78s but that's just the way I am
    I’m an analog man

Turn on the tube, watch until dawn
one hundred channels, nothing is on
endless commercials, endless commercials, endless commercials

the whole world's glued to the cable TV
It looks so real on the big LCD
murder and violence are rated PG, too bad for the children
    they are what they see

Some interesting comments by John Atkinson (editor at Stereophile) from his recent review of the Ayre QA-9 A/D converter:

“...a well-recorded LP can have resolution greater than a CD’s 16 bits in the region where the ear is most sensitive, and can have a recorded bandwidth greater the CD’s 22.05kHz...”

Of course, I took the statement totally out of context simply to support my personal agenda.

And others would argue that this is why even in the primitive Terran sector, software tools like Pure Music and Triumph exist, to be used with professional D/A & A/D converters like the Metric Halo LIO8, which offers high level of both A/D AND D/A at sampling rates up to 192 kHz and 24 bits.

There are quite a few people happily digitizing there irreplaceable vinyl disks, and becoming converts to high resolution digital formats.

Let us not even discuss the primitive state of most D/A converters and the signal mangling (SRC, conversion to delta sigma, etc) done in the name of expediency for mainstream converter chips, in order to minimize chip area and attempt to side step the creation of truly high precision R2/R ladder strings.

There are reasons that products like dCS and TotalDAC D1/D2 have attracted loyal followings...

Sold my old TT, 15 years ago and I still miss listening to the stuff I grew up with on vinyl. It was more involving and less compressed. My Son has been buying a lot of new stuff on vinyl and is egging on to get another TT.

$2000 buys vary nice sound now and even entry seems so much better then when I was young. I'm also amazed at the difference in sound eg, Rega RP6 snappy and fast great mids compared to a Marantz TT15s1 (Clear Audio) clean wide sound stage great separation. Seems more of a difference then say CD players.

Have fun trying to decide and getting excited thinking of all the nice 80 gram new presses of my old favorites.

I just got a Rega RP3 with the factory Elys 2 a few weeks ago. I'm amazed at how good it sounds. Everything I didn't like about my stereo seems to be fixed when listening to vinyl. Highs are less aggressive but still present, mid-bass seems to be better without being "boomy", mids come out more, the listening experience is more fun (watching the vinyl spin).

If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't get the RP3; I would probably get the RP6 or an RP3 with the exact 2 cartridge. I say go for it!

I should also mention that I hated the idea of getting a turntable but my wife wanted one. Now I use it more than her.

                It's a very fun toy.

I would have to say I happily enjoy the whole Vinyl on Digital movement with the hires formats.

I like the fact that with a good and neutral system I can actually hear the differences in how the vinyl was recorded and it honestly, more often than not, sounds a lot better than the compressed "CD" counterpart. Honestly the only two real obsticles are the DAC and ADC... if those are good enough... then any digital representation can sound exactly on par with the analog.

This is coming from the fact that I might not have that exact ability (yet), but with every change I can see where I'm getting closer and closer and at this moment am not very far off. So it's all in what you're will to put in, you can get that out.
                  Digital Audio makes me Happy.

Check out ther great article below from a great web site (http://stevehoffman.tv/)

Based on articles like this and personal experiences, I find that a CD that was recorded/produced properly will almost always sound better than any vinyl version of that same recording.

                    by oldbob
Is it worth all the trouble? That really depends. Let's start with the sound. If you have a very revealing system and you like to listen to music for fairly long increments of time. It is absolutely worth it. For some of us digital music can have the same fatiguing effect as bright speakers. But, let's...

More Evidence of the Resurgence of Vinyl

Chances are, if you’re not a record collector or follower of certain “niche” bands, you may not have heard the news: vinyl is back.

Well, sort of. As the record industry laments the decline of the CD — and along with it,...

I was walking around Walmart this weekend and stopped by the electronics section to reminisce when I used to look at electronics in stores like Walmart, KMart, Target, Meijers, etc as a child. I look over next to the blu rays and see vinyl records and under the records were record players! I don't...

                    by madmac
Absolutely NOT wanting to get into the sonic comparisons of vinyl vs. digital, I was spinning a CD this morning and I thought back to the day I first bought this music. It was on vinyl of course (I'm 48 years old) and I was thinking that as much as I love the sound quality of modern, well recorded and...
