    the revolving door....

As anyone that's been into this hobby for any lenght of time has likely noticed gear tends not to last to long before it gets changed...sometimes for the better some times not ....so lets list all the gear we've had in our racks in the last 3 years...items in bold are still with me.

    Receivers/pre amps

    Sony DB930
    HK ???
    Denon 2800
    Denon 3300
    Sony TA-E9000ES
    Rotel RSP-1066
    Rotel RSX-1055 (currently in use)

    Amps
    Harman Kardon PA5800 (kept)
    Musical Fidelity 2 channel amp
    AB System pro amp
Harman Kardon PA5800 (bought a second one)
Audiopro MOS 1200 (currently powering subs)

    Speakers
    Energy RVS Centre channel
Energy RVSS bi/dipole surrounds - sold
    Energy C-2 mains
    Maggie MMG's
    Maggie SMGa's (two sets)
    Maggie 1.4's
    Energy Audisys's 2+2's (two pairs)
    Energy AC300
Energy RVSS (bought another set after selling first ones...actuall these are the 3rd set I've owned  )
DIY speakers (2 pairs of the M8a's)

    Subwoofers
I've built 5 DIY subs. Currently useing two 220 liter tempest subs

    DVD players
    Toshiba 2800 - hated it
    Pioneer 525
    Panasonic A120
    Panasonic A320
    Sony DVP7700 (currently in use)

    CD player
actually there's been very little change here with the Sony 335 300 disc changer holding down the fort. I use the 7700 for critical listening now though.

    VCR
changed from an old Sony to the Panny - like it matters

The rest of the changes were in cables (adding more catcables etc) changing speaker cables from zip cord to IXOS and now to inwall wireing.

    Andrew,

That is an impressive list! Is this just for the main system? I am having difficulty figuring out which gear is in current use. Perhaps you can put those items in ALL CAPITALS or something.

Yes that's all being in the main system..of course some of them haven't lasted a week (some of the receivers). My current system is outlined in my profile but I'll see what I can do about add bold to the current equipment

Well, there haven't been many changes in my system lately, oh the joys of being in an insecure job. But in the past I've done a few upgrades.

        Receivers

        Sony STR-AV1070 (DPL only)
        Yamaha RX-V795
        Outlaw 1050

No amps, yet, other than for the sub.

        Realistic Minimus 7 (surrounds)
Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble (1st generation, these were Heather's)
Platinum Audio Studio 3 towers and Studio 2 for center/surround

        Subwoofers
SVS 20-39CS (the only one, so far)

        Subwoofer amps
Peavey CS800 (the only one, so far)

        DVD players
        Pioneer DV-414
        Sony DVP-S9000ES

        LD player
        Pioneer CLD-S201
        Pioneer CLD-D704

        VCR
        an old Fisher HiFi VHS

        TV/Monitor
        Hitachi 27"
        Mitsubishi 46805 46" 16:9 HD-ready RPTV

Like Andrew, my other upgrades were things like cables (CatCables), speaker wire (Home Depot 12ga), surge protectors, cabinets, the Pronto, etc.

My Cubicle Audio System for work went through a few upgrades last year, too:

I have only been in this hobby a short time and I have not had an opportunity to do many upgrading (lack of funds). But I have been happy with my system. Hopefully sometime in the near future I can upgrade some components.

I did upgrade my crappy JBL sat/sub system to a pair of Klipsh SB-1 for mains and SC-1 for my center channel. DIY has also allowed me to replace the 8" sealed sub with a 147L Shive Sonotube. My next project is to build a new set of main speakers. Maybe a pair of Adire Audio's Kit281.

First of all let me get this off my chest, Santa Fe sucks! Talk about your Lemmings, everybody has exactly the same color house, the same boring uncomfortable southwest furniture, wear the same clothes, have the same taste in "art", and have the typical IGMFU attitude found in many tourist towns. That's the one where anybody that moves in after you is the cause of overpopulation and ruin. Thank goodness I only have to be here a few months.
O'k, now that I got that off my chest, for anybody that wants out of the revolving door read the audio perfectionist. I know this sounds like a broken record in that I have brought it up before but, just trying to save you a lot of wasted money and disappointment.

                by Tha Freak
I'm wondering if the RSX-1055 can hold a 6ohms impedance for the surrounds speakers ?

I don't understand all the ohms theory, but I'm just wondering if it's OK to drive 6ohms/86db eficiency surrounds speakers with RSX-1055?

The RVSS from energy are dipole configuration...

                Hi everyone,

I am a nube so be patient until I figure out how things are done.
I already asked Andrew about his RVSS speakers, but he already sold them. Does anyone else have a pair they want to sell in Canada. Found one pair already for 200.00, but the shipping would have cost...

                by ThomasW
Planar dipoles have always been one of my favorite speakers. The primary issues creating a good DIY dipole planar system have been the cost and availability of drive units.

The B&G RD series drivers are $pendy, and need a higher than advertised XO point to sound their best. In addition...

Maggie 3.7s + tri center + NAD: looking for real listening experience
                by beaverlake
Please - no non-empirical opinions; I'm looking for comments from Maggie owners who use their speakers for both music listening AND HT use.

I'm looking to replace my B&W 803s/HTM2 + Musical Fidelity XP-200s (3 x ea bridged) with Maggie 3.7s + Tri-center powered by NAD amps. Pre is...

As I was reading through this mornings paper, I come across and add for a Sony DB940 on clearance price for C$688(US$450). Usual price for this is around C$999 - C$950. So on the surface it looks like a pretty good deal.

If it happens to be a demo unit, anything wrong with a demo?...
