    How the other half lives

I came across this photo over at audio asylum. Thought I would share it, if it displays. Not to bad, ey? Note the monstrous monoblocks flanks left and right of the piano black Grand Slams. Levinson maybe. Wow!

Not to bad a view either, huh?

Wow that’s a super system. Like the view too. Add a tall blond and I would be in heaven. 8)

Make mine a short redhead... but tall's OK, too.

Nice equipment...but, am I the only one that sees a ton of reflective surfaces surrounding the system 8O
I'll bet it doesn't live up to it's potential

I agree. Don't Wilson's have rear firing tweaters? That's going to be a harsh reflection.

Never cared for the look of the speakers either. Were I able to afford speakers of that calibre I'd pay for something with a bit more style.

Well, were it my place, I would imagine the Sonus faber Amati Hommage would be sitting in the Wilson's place. Even a lot less cash, like that matters with the money I have, (in that situation).

As to reflections, did you ever think that maybe this is just his party system? His main system may be in the bac, a listening room with complete accoustical treatment. Of course, it could be. From here, how much better does equipment get? Then maybe it's just lower keyed, though great quality for a much smaller area where he does most of his listening. Who knows, and who cares right?! LOL.

But I do agree, the reflections off his million dollar view sure are rough.

How the hell did you get a picture of my fortress of solitude :?:

You are correct, this is just a secondary system with my castoff's. Watching the glass move is kinda neat.

As if! Nice looking gear. The speakers are not that asthetically pleasing to my eye.

Are you sure that's an audio system? :?:

It looks like an office, not a home for starters. Those amps look a lot like file servers to me. As for the speakers, maybe they're tape backup silos or something? And the components could be hubs, routers, or other networking gear.

Like Darth Vader's speakers? Funny you should mention that... in the early eighties, a ladyfriend and I put together a theatrical grade Vader costume (because of my identification with the character) which I used to wear on Halloween in Boulder and for company functions occasionally... The first time my daughter Elaine saw "Star Wars" when she was little, when Vader came on screen when they were capturing the frigate that Leia was on, she said, "Oh look, there's Daddy!"

The real SLAMM's do make mine look kind of tacky, but that's life- they didn't cost me $75K, either.

Thanks Sili, I sort of like them as well, and the new more affordable Cremona are well, beautiful!

Jon, there's a solution. Remake them, if you feel they pale to the originals. I am sure you and Thomas have gained more knowledge since the originals were made, and updating with new piano black cabinets could be a real challenge.

But they do look good, even if you think they pale to the original and like you said, they didn't cost 75K!

Well, 7495.00 compared to 22,000 is quite affordable, ROFL. I know, they are pricey even so.

                                          Levinson maybe.
                                          Levinson definitely. Pretty sure they're 33s, though there's a slim chance they're the 33H's.

For what it's worth, I have heard the Grand Slamms with a full reference Levinson system many times. Incredible tonal balance and life-like sound, but the soundstage was limited due to the room being too small. (Those babies require a very large room.)

P.S. My dealer has the Cremonas but they were not yet broken in the last time I was there, so I didn't listen to them. I will do so next time I visit.
