    They're here!!!!

I made you look, I made you look!

Seriously, in a "what's new" post a while back, I mentioned I was getting new mains speakers in.

They're here, as well as a custom built equipment rack that a friend of mine designed / made for me.

Take a look at the new toys if you'd like:

I have rearranged my speaker configuration, and in a display of wretched excess, I have:
    Soundline SL-2 as the mains
Soundline SL6-6 as the center channel
Acoustat Spectra 22 as the surrounds
    SV Subwoofer 16-46CSx2 as subwoofers.

Wowie! Sonically my HT setup might be sounding halfway decent finally :-P

    Regards all,

They're not even close to being broken in, I had the choice of them shipping with 8 hours of break-in a week or so ago, or get 48 hours of breakin and shipping late this week (shop closing for vacation). I chose the earlier shipping method

They're better than I had expected, and it's only going to improve as they get broken in.

I'll probably get some crap from my audiophile friends on the rack setup, but this was about convenience and ease of use, not mega-ultra-dampening from hell -- I have too much stuff coming and going in my system.

        Regards,

          Looks good, John!

Thomas and I will be interested to hear your comments regarding the speakers, as he's picked up a set of the RD-75's that we've started measurements and development with. When I visit him in the beginning of August, we hope to make a bit more progress on his dipole system. Optimizing the notch filter and the baffle design will be the first tasks, I think.

The rack looks nice, and flexible- how close it it to your speaker system? The further the remove, the less it seems to me that the tweak damping approach is needed. I like Tom's setup where most of it is racked in seperate closet out of the way or down in the basement.

Is this used for just HT, or a combination of HT and music? Anyway, happy listening!

          Regards,

          Jon

            Congrats John,

Please do let us know how the Soundline's sound (front 3 as a matched set). Looking forward to the review. What are you using for amplification?

              Jon,

I only have one system that I have to struggle through with, so it's both HT and stereo.

Everything's still breaking in, and I'm getting acclimated to the sonic differences between these and the Acoustats.

Mostly what I've noticed so far is a complete lack of "strain" so to speak -- no matter how hard I drive them, the tonal character doesn't seem to change. I also enjoy the larger sweet spot

I'm going to do some listening at lower levels after I've had 'em a few weeks. The Acoustats were pretty good at low level playing, unlike some other planars I've listened to.

The rack is about 20" behind the right speaker, given the geometry of my room it's the only place to put it. Unfortunately my old house just doesn't work for racking in a seperate closet or in the basement.

The guys at Soundline have done a great job of building the appropriate notch filters, and once I get a halfway decent SPL meter I'm going to start taking a few measurements. It'll be an Audio Control unit when I get one.

              Regards,

                John aka Reddavid:

No public review forthcoming -- these were a purchase based on my review of the SL-3s last year.

Comparisons across the front triad will come down the road!

Right now I'm using that crappy BAT VK-6200, but it won't be taking up permanent residency as it's too big and heavy for me to deal with.

Once my amplifier enters production (new model release from an existing manufacturer) I'll let you guys know what it is.

                Regards,

This is an idea that has been asked for previously, based on the Wavecor Ardent, and with driver availability in flux or downright disappearing, seemed unlikely to be realized. The introduction of the PuriFi PTT8.0X04 raised hopes for a new generation of Ardent (if anyone is interested!) and it may...

I just noticed this one over on the "Cult" page. 12 Shivas don't float your subsonic boat? No problem, just use 18 - 15" DVCs. Hmmm, let's see, that's about 44 liters of p-p displacement. arty:

                  Eagles New CD?
                  by Foxman
Just curious if anyone here has picked up the new Eagles CD and what your thoughts were of it.

FYI: If you didn't know, it is only available at Sam's club or Walmart.

The title is Long road out of Eden and is a 2 disk set.
