    Looking for CD player help....

    Anyway...

I have been using the same Denon turntable CD player for 20 years and it finally gave up its ghost. So I need a replacement.

I am looking for a turntable unit to hold about 5 discs. A half decent DAC inside would be a bonus (in other words not a 1-bit player.) I have been out of the loop for a while now so I have no idea what might be out there.

Oh yeah, cost. I don't want to spend more than $400. $500 max if it is the bomb. Used is fine too.
BE ALERT! The world needs more lerts.

    Hi Michael!

    Great to hear from you!
The Wife often asks if you have been around.
    Hope you are well.

Sorry but I have no help to offer regarding a multi-disc player, but.....
Check your mail, I have a PM for you.

Get a Marantz turntable CD player. I have the old Marantz CD63SE single disc player but I heard that you can get a similar unit with multi disc format. Obviously, the 63SE unit is not available anymore but I would bet there is a new evolved player that's probably even better.

The Marantz CC4003 5-disc carousel CD changer is right on your budget at $399.00 MSRP.

Also, you might consider taking it to the shop, Vintage HiFi of Pgh, to see if Tom or Anders can resurrect it. They may even be able to mod it. If not, Tom may have some used multi-disc units there. I would wager a cold case of Leffe he does. In the price range you mention you could likely get a used unit, have it modified & still have $ left for plenty more new music.

So after some research I found these. All have a 24-bit dac and can play cd-r's.

                Marantz CC4003 $200 used auction
                Denon DCM-460 $100 used auction
                Onkyo DX-C390 $100 used auction
                Sony SCD-C222ES $140 used auction
                Sony SCD-CE595 $95 used auction

                Both Sony's can play SACD's.

I like Denon/Marantz equipment. However, the Onkyo has my interest right now. SACD would be cool but I am leaning towards a future home server anyway. What do you think?

SACD and DVD-A are basically dead mediums now. I wouldn't worry about that format. I would as a first choice go with the Marantz line but denon is good also. Walk away from the Sony's and Onkyo's.
