Subwoofer diffusion to lower floor

Hi all,
I'me going to be moving my 5.2 channel system into a upper penthouse apartment that seems to have concrete floors. Is there any way or anything I can do to minimize low freq. sub sound diffusion to trickle downstairs?. Maybe placing something under them perhaps??.

Let me know your thoughts or ideas???

I'm dreaming of the DTV HDTV over the air signals I'm going to get with my antenna up here!!. Whoa!!!. The free wi-fi floating around here doesn't hurt either!!.

The concrete should help. Also, is it exposed concrete or is there carpet/hardwood throughout?

Sadly, there's not a whole lot you can do to prevent resonating floors from transmitting sound energy to rooms below it. So you can try to prevent the sound energy from getting to the floor. You can try putting your subs on rubber feet. The "right" answer is to build a new floating floor that will greatly decouple the new floor of the room from the structural concrete floors.

Like Chris said, some type of feet, be they rubber or spikes or the like. Of course, if your sub is big enough to vibrate other furniture you'd have similar issues with them. Will neighbor/roommate issues prevent you from hitting volumes loud enough to cause issues?

Or just buy out the two floors underneath you to make into your main condo, and keep the upper floor as the media floor.

Oh ya Chris do I look like Rockerfeller to you??!! Hehehe. I'll set it up and start playing it and we'll see what happens right?. My speakers do come with rubber feet as an option. That's the only way to do it honestly. Elevator is down for maintenance for a week so the whole thing will have to wait. Not doing 7 flights with a 40 pound Rotel Amp and tower speakers. NOT gonna happen!!. Then there is the wiring, adjustment and setup. Paintings are up so the acoustical treatment is there (INSIDE JOKE!!!) Sheesh....I hate moving. I must say, the view and breeze of the lake here is wonderful!!. :T

A friend of mine did that in his new house, and he did the same thing to the walls too. It works very well. His requirement was a band rehearsal and recording room, not a home theatre, but the annoyance factor is the same. I well remember his wife fielding late night calls from angry neighbours at his previous house. "I understand completely but he doesn't listen to me either; I've tried everything" she used to say as she sipped on her Sauvignon Blanc and carried on socialising.

Getting back to the oil painting discussion and whether they affect sound?. Well, all the paintings are out of my listening room now and I listened to some familiar material and I must say, the difference in performance is quite dramatic....and for the worse!!!. So there....the paintings along the wall DO affect the sound!!. How and why is another subject to debate but they do affect the sound for sure!!.

This would help you out... or a couple of them depending on how big your sub is... it helps decouple it from the floor.
