    DAC for iMac

    Hello, I just purchased a Rotel 1520 integrated amp, I am setting it up to my iMac and have ALAC files for music. Speakers are B&W CM5, my living room is about 12x13. I am looking for a DAC under 500, any recommendations? Thank you.

    You might consider the Grant Fidelty Tube DACs like the DAC-09 or the newer DAC-11.

    Cheers!

      I run a Rega DAC from my Mac Mini, but there are a number of good DACs available. But for around the $500 mark, Emotiva or Audio-GD make DACs that have had good reviews.
      Analogue Source: Rega P1 w/ Ortofon OM30, Digital Source: Mac Mini (late 2009), PS3 -> Rega DAC -> Amplification: Rotel RA-1520 -> Speakers: B&W CM5, Wharfedale SW150

        The Calliope uses the DA25TX; we've used that in several designs. It's a real bargain in the performance/cost ratio; it's drawbacks are mainly the large size and flimsy front plate- I've actually dissembled these on occasion and epoxied two front plates together and re-assembled the tweeter with one...

        External DACs (and room acoustics)
        by mb225
        Does anyone have experience with external DACs? My current system is great but I still find it to be edgy or bright sometimes. I’ve been reading a lot of reviews on DACs lately and I was wondering if that should be my next upgrade? A lot of the reviews of DACs seem to address jitter and use phrases...

        Posted what I thought was a simplified explanation about sound quality in DD/DTS vs. PCM. Curious where I'm off vs. maybe the guy correcting me.
