Speakers for pro/sound reinforcement emphasize very high sensitivity and the ability to achieve high SPLs versus sonic refinement. Woofers trade in the lowest octaves for high sensitivity, and typically have a steep rolloff below about 55-50Hz. There are some pro subs that go down to 35-30Hz. The dispersion characteristics of pro high and midrange drivers differ from home speakers because the former are designed to disperse sound over a far and wide area, versus the narrow sweet spot of a home setup.

IMO, the most important requirements are high power handling capability and good sound quality. Audiophile characteristics take a back seat in a pro/sound reinforcement environment. Do you need speakers for a club or you thinking of using pro speakers in the home ?Originally posted by AwArEnEsSThanks for your answers.
Should they be forward/laid back,bright/warm?Are these important too?Or are bass, high sensitivity, high SPL the only important ones?

loudspeakers often use horn technology with higher sensitivity. If anything, they are typically brighter to be more dynamic and "entertaining".

There is no one type of speakers for pop concerts and another type for clubs. Its the same "PA speakers" that are are used, whether by DJs, for concerts, in clubs or in a house of worship. The only differences are in size, quantity, placement, and power rating, depending on specific use.

Thanks for your answer Glen.
Are all professional speakers bright? For example, are speakers at a rock concert and speakers at a jazz concert same about brightness? Why are some speakers for home "laid back"?The universe arises from definitionless awareness.- Bottom

For touring, I would say the most common speaker systems would be line array's mixed with subs. What about characterics of Pop Concert Speakers
The home equivalent would be to use monitors with subs.
Speakers for concerts need to have "throw" and "punch". They would cause extreme ear fatigue if you used them to listen for long periods in the closed environment of a home. Home audio speakers are designed for comfortable long listening periods.- Bottom

Unluckiness.Alaric, while I was writing my answer after Glen's response, you wrote a response quicker than me.So I thanked Glen for his answer, but couldn't thank you cause I didn't see your message(you wrote it while I was writing my message after Glen's response),and it seemed like I thanked only to Glen for his answer.Sorry,of course I thank you for your answer too Alaric. And thanks for your answer Bob.The universe arises from definitionless awareness.- Bottom

You're certainly welcome , and no offense taken. Bose are also fairly popular in that venue , as well as JBL. I attended a bluegrass festival recently and JBLs were the speakers used. I found them to be somewhat harsh until a couple acts really wowed me. I think overpowering the speakers is likely more responsible for the forward character of many concert set-ups. Overdriving horns will give a decidely unpleasent result. IMOLee

by JonMarshWhen I got the email with Trond-Erik's new Pro-Pro, something about that rang a bell. The bell was related to an AV Forums post by a guy with high sensitivity speakers comparing the Benchmark AHB2 amplifier and the M22 and some other amplifiers. One of his bugaboos was output noise, and noise that could...-

by beden1Well, I spent over 3 hours at the Classe/B&W dealer today to demo the SSP-800 for the first time, as well as to compare the 803Ds to the 802Ds once again.
For this post, I eliminated the section of my Classe SSP-800 review that I posted in the Classe Forum section.
