Both the Bryston SP2 and the Velodyne DD-12 are excellent equipment choices. I have been using a Bryston SP2 which I connected to a Velodyne SMS-1 via the “subwoofer out” on the back panel of the SP2. The SMS-1 was then connected to a Velodyne FSR-18. The combination of the SMS-1 and the FSR-18 approximates the operation of a Velodyne DD-18.

    Two questions:

    1) Are you using 2 channel analog/digital or 2 channel bypass? In 2 channel bypass mode, nothing but the front left and right channels are “active”, so you would not be getting anything from the subwoofer in that mode.

    2) Are your front speakers set to “large” or “small” ? If they set to “small”, all bass will go to the subwoofer (except when in bypass mode of course); if they are set to “large”, the subwoofer will be inactive in stereo unless you use the Xbass mode as explained below.

Per page 11 of the SP2 owners manual:

With any 2-channel material, there is no LFE (Low Frequency Effects, .1 channel) track. So, if your front speakers are defined as ‘Large’, the subwoof¬er will be inactive because no bass is being direct¬ed there. The Xbass mode allows the subwoofer to be active, even if the front speakers are full-range. You may find this is particularly useful for Pro Logic movie soundtracks.
In the Speaker Setup Menu, under the SUB head¬ing, there are 3 choices:
1: None: no subwoofer attached to the system.
2: Yes - Xbass Off: subwoofer is active, but only active with LFE tracks if the front speakers are full-range
3: Yes - Xbass On: subwoofer is active in system, in addition to full-range speakers.
So to use your subwoofer for two channel stereo use in digital or analog (non-bypass) modes, you have two choices. Either identify your front speakers as “small”, in which case all bass will go to the subwoofer, or engage the Xbass mode.

    Enjoy!

        by SRT-10 Viper
I have 800D fronts with N802 rear speakers and an HTM2D center. I just purchased Velodyne DD12 (wanted to go 18" but wife said no more large speakers! 8O ). For HT, I have a Denon 5085. How should I set up my speakers? Should I go Large on all speakers Or, should I set the speakers (some or all)...

        SVS PB13-Ultra VS. Velodyne DD12
        by SoundEngine355
        Hi,

        I'm down to two subwoofers.

        SVS PB13-Ultra VS. Velodyne DD12

Pros and Cons I can think of:

        1. SVS is $500 cheaper
        2. Velodyne is smaller, SVS is double the size
        3. SVS goes lower according to the tests.
        4. Velodyne...

        RMB-1075 or RMB-1085
        by Guybrush
I was wondering if replacing my RMB-1075 amplifier with the new RMB-1085 Class D amplifier would improve or make my system sound worse.
I have 4 Magnepan SMGc and a Magnepan CC3 center speaker (which are all 4 ohm speakers) and a Velodyne DD12 powered subwoofer.

        Replaced Velodyne F1200 with a Velodyne DD10
        by urlawyer
My old Velodyne F1200 started rattling and would drop out a lot. Found that the edge had holes that caused the rattle but not the drop outs. Went out and bought a Velodyne DD10, cause the dealer gave me a great deal. I wanted a DD12 or a DD15 but they were beyond my price justification. Turns out...
