    tonal differences

    okay,

I have a question. I am currently running a pieced together system for my home theatre. It's only temporary as I am going to replace each speaker shortly.

Currently I am running some budget Pioneer Towers up front and a JBL Northridge EC35 (3 way) center channel. Yesterday I was doing some calibrations and noticed that the test tone sounded vastly different from the two different speakers. From the center channel the tone sounded brighter and had less mass. However from either the left or right channel it seemed to have more body and almost sounded deeper. Is this the reciever or are the two speakers just that far off in sound quality? I have thought maybe the JBL's cross over crosses that test tone to a smaller driver which doesn't do a good job of reproducing that sound? where as the pioneer designers choose a bigger driver?

It is generally a good idea to use speakers from the same manufacturer (at minimum)across the front of your HT system. (Main L/R and center channel) Selecting these three speakers from the same design series will further enhance the synergy. Speakers from the same series will use similar drivers, cabinet construction and crossover components in an attempt to produce a similarly voice set of speakers. The more similarly voiced speakers in the system, the smoother the transitions while the sound is being steered between speakers.

I highly, highly, highly recommend to people that they use matching speakers for multichannel setups, or speakers that a manufacturer has designed to be used with each other. (i.e. my Klipsch Legend series speakers)

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

I bought a Krell HTS 5.1 and Showcase 5 amp. It is a great combination. I would highly recommend them. The quality of the sound is spectacular. I have pretty high-end tubes for my 2 channel and the Krell is along the same lines in quality. I am currently using B&W speakers. I tested some 600-series...

Sub Test Tone Level (should be) Fixed in RSP-1098 Upgrade
        by Aussie Geoff
        Hi,

It was suggested to me by one of my sources that the DSP EPROM update in the latest RSP-1098 firmware release (plus the native EPROM code in the RSP-1068 and RSX-1067) fixed the issue that many of us RSP-1098 owners had with the Sub level in the Test Tone menu being 10 dB too low

        Soundstage

Soundstage refers to the perceived spatial placement and localization of sound sources in a recording. It describes the three-dimensional presentation of audio, making it seem as if the sound is originating from specific locations within the listening environment, rather than coming directly from the loudspeakers. When a recording and playback system is capable of creating a convincing soundstage, listeners can experience a more immersive and realistic audio experience. The...

        McIntosh C200, C46 Preamps
        by jteoh1
I have difficulty locating local dealers with McIntosh C200 preamp available for audition. I haven't listened to either C200($7000) and C46($4250) yet. So, I’m looking for your valuable input in selecting a preamp below $7500 to match up with my MC501 mono block amps and B&W Nautilus 802 speakers....

RSX-1067 No test tone from Center Back
        by ka724ka
        Hi,
I just owned this receiver to replace with my old cheap one that I brought 5 year ago.

The setup was pretty smooth. I hooked up all 7 speakers which I used on the old receiver, when I tried to test them with test tone in the setting, I found out there is no test tone output...
