A number of my friends love music too so we all get good ideas from each other. I spend quite a lot of time researching music on the Internet. I read reviews in Mojo magazine. I've also picked up some good ideas from this forum.
I download albums in mp3 format for evaluation and occasionally my friends give me copies of CDs for evaluation. If I like the album I go and buy it. If I don't like it I discard it because it takes up valuable space and there's so much other music to listen to. I therefore get to listen to a lot of music. Some people may not approve of my methods but I like to try before I buy and with my appetite the cost would be prohibitive. That's just the way I operate.

Bigburner Is the Man!!!
Bigburner,
I admire the way you operate and your methods..why not!! You are not harming anyone, on the contrary you are promoting the Music to all of us, and we are buying all these CDs because of your kind word of mouth. I think the CD companies should thank you ;x( Hint you should be getting a comission here!! :W
Keep up the great work you have done for us on this forum!! :T We need people like you to guide us to fantastic CDs and give an opinion on them, so we can actually look for them, hear them or buy them!! :T
Some of the CDs you have mentioned on this forum were unknown to me ,and never heard of them ,until you opened our eyes to them and would have never ever have picked that album if it weren't for you!! TRUE!!! ;x(
Thanks Bigburner!!!! A true and genuine Forum helper!!! 8)
By the way SEAL accoustic of his DVD-A album is truely brilliant!!
Have a wonderful day Bigburner ,and I will check this beatle album out, as I love DVD-A and I love the beatles too!!!
Cheers!- Bottom

I'm back to Robin Trower's Another Days Blues, suggested earlier by bigburner. An excellent British-guitar-god-got-the-blues album. :4: out of :5:
Nigel, you might be interested to know that the song Shining Through originally came out on his 1997 album Someday Blues..

"Whatever Happened To Jugula" by Roy Harper & Jimmy Page
I have decided that I'm going to expand my knowledge of folk music, which I have mostly avoided all my life. I figured that folk music with Jimmy Page must be worth a try.
A point of interest: "Hats Off to (Roy) Harper" is a song played by the English rock group Led Zeppelin, for which Jimmy Page was the guitarist. It is the last track on the "Led Zeppelin III" album.
Nigel.
PS. chinets, I strongly recommend that you listen to this one first because it's not everyone's cup of tea!- Bottom

"Givin' It Up" by George Benson & Al Jarreau
This album won't frighten the horses but it will provide very pleasant listening after you've come home from a party and want to wind down, or perhaps while you're having dinner etc.
I played this the other week when an old friend came over for dinner. The previous day he had driven 6 hours from the West Coast and during the drive he had been thinking about the George Benson & Al Jarreau concert he attended when visiting the USA in 1976. He thoroughly enjoyed the concert where incidentally he was the only white guy in the audience. Anyway he was completely gobsmacked when he got to my place and saw the George Benson & Al Jarreau CD sitting on the table as he hadn't thought about them for years. I gave him my copy for the drive home and got a new one.- Bottom

‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’
Vince Guaraldi Trio
Vince died at a very young age, and while rather well known for his work on Charles Schultz’s cartoon soundtracks, never was considered a great in the jazz scene commercially. He played mostly one and two night stands in small clubs, and passed between sets at his last gig in a small nightclub. Just a blue-collar musician doing what he loved.
If you are slightly interested, check this out.- Bottom

"Illinoise" by Sufjan Stevens
Alloroc (Vincent) nominated this one as his favourite album of 2006.
I've just finished listening to the whole album and whilst I'm not prepared to rate it quite that highly yet I think it is a most interesting and unusual album.
It usually takes me 3 complete plays of an album to get to grips with it and decide whether I really like it. "Illinoise" will definitely get a second play.- Bottom

[B]Cesaria Evora - [I]Best of
Not a WOW album, but certainly very nice, laid back listening. Ideal for background music.
Good quality recording. Very good music performance.
This woman has an extremely soothing voice and singing this kind of laid back Latin American - North African kind of music suit her voice perfectly.
Very enjoyable.- Bottom
