    "Highway Companion" by Tom Petty.

This CD is getting lots of play in my house. The album was produced by Jeff Lynne (who played with Tom Petty in the Traveling Wilburys) and his influence shows.

This album has universal appeal. It's very female friendly.

The Halloween CD my wife bought at the store today. We traditionally dress as the Adam’s Family, with my daughter as Wednesday, but we never had the theme song playing. I always have Bach’s fugue playing at outrageous SPL with my surrounds perched in the windows and echoing throughout the local neighborhood.

This year, all on one CD we have the Adam’s Family original theme, the Twilight Zone theme, Funeral March for a Marionette (form Alfred Hitchcock Presents), and Bach’s Fugue!

OK. So the SQ on the CD may not be up to par, but I am ecstatic that I won’t have to spend 4 straight hours listening to Bach’s fugue, over, and over and over. Frankly, I was ‘batty’ by the end of night.

I'll have to give this album another go. I got it 3 or 4 months ago and listened to it twice, but it didn't spin my wheels. I thought that Emmylou and Mark performed well but the material was a bit lacking. However the two things I've learnt about music are (a) timing is everything; if you're not in a receptive mood then don't review new music, and (b) you need to listen to many albums a few times over before they make an impact; love at first hearing is wonderful but it isn't an essential prerequisite for a great album.

I'll put "All the Roadrunning" back on my playlist.

Question: are many new albums released on vinyl these days?

I should try that, given Knopfler.

"The Road To Escondido" by JJ Cale & Eric Clapton

Very mellow, very cool. 'Like two peas in a pod', as Jed Clampett used to say. This album will get played a lot.

Before that I was listening to "Turn Around" by Jonny Lang.

Very Stevie Wonder. Quite a change from his earlier albums, which is OK by me. This will get played a bit too.

                      Two winners!

Would "Greetings from Michigan: The Great Lakes State" be a good second Sufjan disc to get?Considering ,I am really enjoying this one.
All those acoustic instruments would shine live.

It's a bit more mellow - but engrossing(and beautiful) none the less. 'Holland' is a wonderful track.

If you really like Illinoise, I'd recommend 'The Avalanch'. It's a collection of outtakes and other recordings from the sessions from Illinoise. Great stuff.

He mentioned during the concert that his next album's theme will be about 'Birds' - he played a new track called 'Majesty, Snowbird'.

And they did shine - there were about 12 or 13 musicians on stage, including a brass section of 5.

I don't know where you're based but he's finishing his Euro tour in a few days. Then he's back to the States. If you can, go see! Then it all makes sense!

Alloroc thanks, 'The Avalanche' ,paraphrasing Sufjan, who said it, "wasn't that good. Just extras and scrapings"...and many critics begged to differ, saying his extras and outtakes are very worth getting...if it's 2/3rds of "Illinoise"..."it will be mine." I'll hunt down "Michigan" too. Maybe a Sufjan show is in my future cards...thx.

Bigburner let me rephrase that to... "Solid deal", the Gill 4 disc 43 track box set, street price $20 new. Very good recording quality.
Some guests; Lee Ann Rimes ,Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Alsion Krauss Diana krall, Trisha Yearwood,Lee Ann Womack,John Anderson,Phil Everly,Emmylou Harris,Patty Loveless,Rodney Crowell,Gretchen Wilson.
An eclectic mix .If anyone here likes the Allison Krauss/Union Station albums...by all means go online and listens to samples of this offering.
I wait for most of my music to show up used...but,this type of set usually ends up split up,with the parts selling used for more than the whole new.

He's pretty much dismissive of all his stuff.... Interestingly, he was very dismissive of the track 'Chicago', and that has turned out to be the track that gets most airplay in Ireland - a hit in other words.

I only just remembered this now but berfore we entered the theater to see him, we went for dinner in a restaraunt next door(The Mermaid in Dublin, for those interested). And we were seated right beside a table where Sufjan and two others were eating dinner. We (my wife and I) did the decent thing by not interupting him and let him enjoy his dinner in peace......

"Another Wisdom" was produced in Nashville, but it isn't Grand Ole Opry-style country music by any means. By turns, Malcolm sounds a bit like Gordon Lightfoot with an overlay of Roger Miller, maybe even Chris Rea, with a dash of Dire Straits thrown in for good measure. But in the end, his sound is enough its own to make it worth repeated listening. (I especially like track 4 "Love Abides".). The engaging instrumental backup is flawlessly recorded.

Make no mistake about it, this is big band music by musicians that love big bands!

I bought it because everybody else raves about it, and I agreed with the sonic clarity. However, I just can't get into the music, so for me, the album goes most of the race, and then peters out in the last 100 yards.

On the other hand, my personal taste in music is much more suited to Dire Straits: Brothers in Arms, and so that is the album that I use and recommend as the "definitive" multichannel demo disc.

It sounds a bit like the Art of Noise/Pink Floyd/Eagles/Cat Stevens type of Music, but what kills me is the distribution of the sound: Sound Factor is 12 out of 10 a HUGE BIG WOW!!! for the sound!!!
