    impedance matching

    hi there

i hope someone can help i seem to be going round in circles.

i am trying to place a speaker box inplace of where there used to be a headset. i am planning to use an 8 ohm speaker and the headset was 180 ohms. does anyone know how to work it out or can some one do it for me???

    many thanks in advance

Details of what you are connecting the headphone/speaker to may be helpful to give a good answer.
There are some things which are impossible to know, but it is impossible to know which things these are. :scratchhead:

      hi

      thanks for replying

the info i have is the headphone impedance is 230 ohms (sorry i thought it was lower) the output level at 0.5v/1khzis 81dba. there is an amplifier that feeds the headphones, which i'm still planning to use and the data i have for that is freq range 63-1600hz -6db, amplification 200mV/200ohms at an input signal of 4mV/1Khz, supply voltage 15-27V and power consumption is 18mA at 27V.

i am planning to use a normal 4 inch 8 ohm speaker.

all the above data was taken of a data sheet so if there is any other infromation i can provide please let me know.

      many thanks

        HI,
Sorry to say, it won't work. Headphone jacks have series resistors in place to limit the current draw to prevent just what you are trying to do. If you connect a speaker it will play but at very low volume. Not a good idea. You could connect another amp to the jack. But what's the point?

How To: VituixCAD Extended Impedance Model For Any Driver
          by Reet
Loudspeaker T/S often includes only a single Le value for inductance, however driver motors are usually much more complex than a single coil of wire, so Le on its own is not a very good description of the driver characteristics. An extended impedance model, or “semi-inductance” model can provide additional characterization of the impedance curve for greater accuracy.

Many Scan-Speak drivers include this data in the “advanced parameters” section of their datasheets, however the...

          Stereo Bluetooth headset replacement!
          by madmac
Well folks, my Motorola SD9-HD bluetooth headset has started a buzzing, rattling sound in the left earpiece. Similar to the sound that you get from a car speaker that has dirt in it or a busted foam surround. After many, many years of using this headset, I am going to assume that the driver inside this...

How To: Measuring impedance and T/S with ARTA/LIMP
          by Reet
With a simple jig, loudspeaker impedance and T/S parameters can be easily measured with LIMP. The same jig may also be used to measure component value for resistors, capacitors, and inductors, as well as measure transfer functions of passive and active filters.

The setup is quite simple, the following diagram is taken from the LIMP manual:

How important is it to flatten a tweeter impedance peak?
          by JonW
So I’m trying to make up a decent crossover for the first time and wondering about the importance of squishing impedance peaks. I’ve got a tweeter that I measured and found a decent bump as seen here:

Zaph has been using a similar tweeter in his ZRT project linked here:...

Not quite sure where to post this one but here seems most logical.

          Anyhow, I got myself a new 3G cellphone - a Sony Ericsson K800i.
Great phone with lots of features. My previous phone was a W900.

Anyhow, I commute by train once every couple of weeks and travel...
