I have an old pair of speakers with 15" woofers. The surrounds are all rotted off and I haven't used these for 8+ years. I can purchase some 15" SUBwoofers for a resonable price. Can I just replace the woofers with subwoofers?
woofer or subwoofer?

Hi Rob, welcome to The Guide. :welcome:
Definitely look into replacing the surrounds. If the rest of the speaker is in good condition, this'll be your most cost-effective option. Also, just replacing the surrounds will keep your speakers sounding like you are used to, while replacing the drivers - unless you match them VERY closely to the old ones - will cause the output sound to change. Possibly dramatically, possibly negatively.
Here's a link to Parts Express' surround kits. They have kits dedicated to specific brands/models and I also saw a generic 15" repair kit.
Good luck..

by mpotokaWell I just know enough to know I don't know that much. I built 7 speakers of the audax kits from madisound a couple years ago. I'm considering tearing apart my surround cabinets and builing a box for them to fit into the wall. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to, or if I need to, remove/modify...-

We will start with Construction.. The basic construction of them is very easy.. As always the finish you use can make the project more difficult. If you want to see a how-to of how...-

by Erich HI've been working on a few Group Buys at some of the other forums dealing with waveguides, MFW subwoofers, JBL gear, and a few other things. One was for a flat pack kit for the Anarchy tapped horn on AVS and then the Overnight Sensations from PE.
As with the other Group Buys I helped...-
