    Sat/sub quick pick help needed

I appologize in advance for doing this, but here goes anyway...

Advice please on a decent sat/sub combo for $500 or less, preferrably less. A good friend has moved from a large house where she had been using my old, and rather large, Cerwin-Vega D9's.

She's now in an apartment and there is not room for the Cerwins. Her music of choice is "modern" Country music, but occasionally other types are played too. The source is an older Sony ES receiver @ 100 w/ch. The receiver is a multi-channel HT receiver, but she is not really too much into movies, it's 90-95% 2-ch stereo use.

She would like to get something this coming weekend if at all possible. Hence, not much time to read all the reviews, etc. Brand really does not matter because where we live pretty much anything is a drive of 75 to 150 miles one-way or by mail order.

    Thanks.
There are some things which are impossible to know, but it is impossible to know which things these are. :scratchhead:

Greg, I'll see your Cambridge and raise you an Energy Take 5.1 system. :

TR, here's a link to many reviews on the Take 5x systems. If you read down the list, you'll see the various price points you can find these systems at.

Yup, Take 5.1 is very worthy... but right back atcha with a refurb/B-stock:

AC4L is a good source for discounted NHT, Canton & Acoustic Research packages.

        Also, a well-regarded entry-level sub for $100: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...=300-632&DID=7

There ya go... I'd like to think I've made a difference today.

Jonatha Brooke- you *should* know who she is...

I'm always on the lookout for interesting new music, but it's not very often I find an accomplished artist with as deep a repetoire as Jonatha Brooke, that somehow I've never stumbled across.

What is the optimum HT speaker setup - sub/sat or towers?
          by Jmac
          Greetings All

This is my 'inagural' post, and I was wondering which is the better setup generally as regards HT speakers; matching floorstanders all round, or a matching sub/sat system all round.

Space is not a prime concern, I'm concerned mainly with performance, and...

          RMB-1077 overkill for sub/sat system?
          by fordster
For a number of reasons (space being the primary one) I'm limited to having a sub/sat system for my AV system. I'm currently thinking of upgrading the speakers and sub to a B&W MT30 package. These will be connected to my RSX-1056 which I'm very happy with. However upgraditis being what it is...
