Delayed gratification... FESTOOL style... "10 Years After"

OK, everyone knows I'm the wires and sparks guy, so no need pay much attention to a topic from me on woodworking tools- though I do get religious about my SawStop table saw....

This is a follow up, on what amounts to a rather delayed realization of a high grade sanding solution with absolutely minimal noise and dust- documented partially in the Saint-Saëns planar thread.

In November 2016, I ordered a FESTOOL Pro 5 Ltd sander, 125mm random orbital sander with 3 mm orbit. Due to overwhelming demand at the low introductory price, they ran out of stock, Checking back, it wasn't shipped until 2018. Hey, better late than never, right? But a lot of stuff going on a work, plus Beverly's passing due to pancreatic cancer, etc. So never followed up on that.

Well, Steve, being the exemplary woodworking maven I can never hope to match, at least seeing stuff in the periphery of photographs in his shop, I realized that getting a matching dust collector with equivalent functionality might be a worthwhile option to consider, if the price wasn't too dear.

Enter stage left, the FESTOOL CT 15 collector, with remote activation, and hose couplers with very low leakage, totally compatible with my now ancient Pro 5 Ltd. This is NOT an Influencer Ad for FESTOOL, just ongoing personal experience.

Of course, that's just a picture from the ad in Amazon for the CT15 from the Hartsville Hardware order.

Besides what looks like a very high quality air hose, the feature of interest to me is that there is an AC outlet you can plug the sander into, and this triggers the on and off function of the vac. Handy...

And since this is the Internet, and nothing is real without pictures (and these days with AI, thats even sketchy!), here we are, ready for the next Sanding steps on the Saint-Saëns cabinets. Extra disks that were ordered also arrived.

Hmm, 2016 to 2026... maybe I should rename the post... done!

One of those things I didn't see spelled out anywhere but I suppose should be pretty obvious, is given the length of power cord and hose, it makes sense to use tie wraps and couple the two together over most of the length...

    Proof of execution.

My Festool sander and dust extractor have changed how I look at projects. I used to hate sanding and finishing; now it seems like such a minor task. That's all I own from Festool, but sometimes I wonder whether any of their other tools would be as much of a joy to use.

        Orbital vs. palm sander
        by Finleyville
        Anyway...

I only know that the palm sander can use standard sandpaper cut to size and the orbital uses hook and loop backed circular sanding sheets. Some orbital models have dust collection too.

Besides that what are their differences? Are they used for different jobs?...

        Electrical help on bench sander
        by augerpro
I've been looking for a bench sander that isn't junk but isn't terribly expensive either. Craigslist has some older USA made stuff, but nothing really compact that can be used on the rotating bench I'm thinking of building. Most <$150 seem to be rebadged versions of the same one, with Wen being the...

        Festool Q for the woodworkers
        by JoshK
Anyone have the Festool plungesaw? Santa is likely to bring me one for xmas. I am wondering if the dust extractor is worth the extra for a "kit price". I have a 1HP dust collector with remote and a big shop vac. What is special about this one?

        Sander Question
        by dyazdani
I am trying to finish up the work on my sub cabinet. I'm getting pretty close on the Bondo stage, but I need to sand everything smooth.

What type of sander is recommended? I included two examples of my current choices.

One like this with a round pad...
