Ha - "clean as freshly fallen snowflake"... very descriptive. I have an event this weekend where I can listen to one... so might pay particular attention to it!
That said... I just recieved the last items I need to tune the AS250 enclosures, so that may take priority first!- Bottom

You know, Ron, I don't think that's bad at all.... they both have some quirks on the bench, the Auralic Vega a bit less so. Both have enough transparency and resolution with a good front end that it isn't unreasonable to say that system matching might be the deciding point? if one's system is a bit weightier or darker, the Auralic might get the nod. I still have mine, planned to be used in a secondary system when life get's re-organized after 2018 or so. That is, unless the Soekris 1541 beats it out... will try them both with a Mutec reclocking system. Haven't even had time to measure the Soekris yet. was working all Thanksgiving weekend, prior to the surgery on Monday. Maybe during my medical leave... :Wthe AudioWorx

But I must be feeling better, because this morning I was looking at articles about the new 2018 Goldwing, and thinking about how much fun one of those could be in BAMF, up around Lake Louise where I presented a paper at a conference a few years ago. Would like to get back there...the AudioWorx

That is something to keep in the headlights! I been staring that bike down to. I went for a ride past there last summer on my VFR on my way to Jasper, was suppose to hook up with Wayne in BC but ran out of time. We should do a speaker confab in Calgary at Ben's. You know you let go of your VFR and ST and you will almost cover the cost of a new Wing, lolNah, this little matter of a hip joint replacement.

Jon,
One of my best friends is our age, 2 weeks ago he and I walked about 4 miles thru plowed rice fields pheasant hunting. Sometimes on the smooth but muddy levies. Having only grey hair left we stopped walking about 1 PM and went back to the trailer for lunch and a quick rest before heading out hunting again. Point of this is, he had BOTH hips replaced 2-3 years ago. He says he is in no pain but takes it easy "Just in case".
Good luck & I hope it is a speedy recovery, it will give you time to listen to your marvelous creations.

Nice story, Ron! :T
Today I went down to one end of our block, back up to the other end, then back home. Took it easy, but that was a half mile altogether, and another good thing is that I am reflexively leading with the right leg again (the One operated on), instead of the left, which was the norm for several years now. Beverly says I appear to be healing much faster than her; it’s probably the liposomal Vitamin C, I think. If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying hard enough.
Most of the good gear is already in storage in Idaho, but I have the Soekris high end (relative to their series) 1541 R2R ladder DAC here, and some good headphones. Might get myself a dCS network bridge for Christmas after all We’ve been through this year! :W
Steve and I have a few things up our sleeves that need some attention; when One names a project after one’s granddaughter, there is a certain amount of pressure to deliver something worthwhile.
Did your friend have both joints done at the same time? Usually at least 3 months apart is a good idea- recovery could be a bear otherwise!the AudioWorx

One of my biggest character flaws is developing an overly strong attachment to my two wheel critters- I still have my 1981 CBX. And both VFRs and the ST1300 should be much more rideable for me with the hip fixed. Maybe even my GTS1000, since I changed out the handlebars.
The New Goldwing intrigues for a variety of reasons, including the new front suspension which should behave a lot more like the GTS1000. Once you’ve tasted being free of fork dive and fork stiction, going back is hard. OTOH, my modified VFR1200 is such a great gentleman’s hooligan bike (with different seat, the low gear torque limiters removed, and a modified peg and handlebar setup, I can’t imagine letting go of it.the AudioWorx

Thanks for the kind wishes, Joaquin, it’s actually been going much better than I expected- been easier getting through the first week, which Beverly called hell week.
Now it seems I mostly just have to be patient, steadily expand the scope of activity but in a sane fashion, and things will be OK.the AudioWorx

Yeah, Beverly is surprised at how well I'm doing this early- she always referred to the first week as "Hell week", and while I wouldn't have termed it a bowl of cherries and French vanilla ice cream, it was no where near as bad as I expected from seeing her and her descriptions of it subjectively. Lucky, I guess... knock on wood!
now, the only 'splaining I've got to do now, is the new guitar I have coming, ordered Monday, which I can't even blame on the narco pain killers, because I haven't been taking them!
It's a demo Schechter from Sweetwater that has been PLEK'd and discounted nicely- has the Floyd Rose tremolo... I.E., it's good stuff. Pretty, too.

Hey Ron,
A man can only have so many hobbies and still have a full time job... obviously, we're at the cusp of knowing which should go... but not till the end of next year!
Believe it or not, I do have a kit of parts to test that idea, for building a Stratocaster clone, but I have no illusions that the first one off is going to rival my Fender Custom Shop Jeff Beck signature model... ;-). unless I spent a whole ton of money for extra hardware (possible) but then the tone wood still wouldn't be in the same class, I'm afraid.
This is a great place for getting parts and materials of all kinds, including complete neck assemblies (unfinished) in exotic woods....
The STRATosphere is best known for offering the finest selection of guitar parts in the world. Quality has always been our top priority. Chrisn, the extra mini toggles are control switches for the sustainer front pickup, which is something of a different beast- this is an active pickup guitar. Front pickup is designed for high gain sustain with a compressor- how to get those feedback tones without the full Marshal stack. As I already have the full Marshall stack (again), not really a worry on my part. Heard good things about how these play, and the one I bought has been PLED'd (German computer controlled fret milling and leveling for neck playability.)
The way the small three position switch works is that it selects the harmonic band to sustain- in one position, the fundamental is the focus, in the second position, it's about even between the fundamental and first overtone; in the 3rd position, the extra gain is just on the overtone.
I have several kinds of guitars that have been PLED'k, and it's one of the best things you can do for a good guitar, or even a medium good one, like a limited production Epiphone.Last edited by JonMarsh; 07 December 2017, 18:59 Thursday.the AudioWorx

BTW, it arrived today, and it's pretty much everything I expected; very good construction quality and the neck playability is fabulous.
I did have to hunt online a bit for a generic Schecter PDF manual that explains the Floyd Rose Tremolo setup and re-stringing the guitar. But NBD...

Update - Crossover Mounting Plates cut...
The idea here, to ensure the crossovers have ample room, is to split the crossovers up a little. The two large plates are mounted into the two Mid/Bass Cabinets and cover this portion of the crossover. They will end up with some shielding plates over them to ensure no noise from the DS8.0 amps encroach, given they are both occupying the same void. The two smaller plates get stacked, and will accomodate the Mid/Tweeter portion of the Crossover. The stacked approach just ensure there is enough room to mount components.
All coming together nicely...

Count me in as very interested on hearing the impressions of the C168-6-990. I'm considering that as well as the Audio Technology 15H (SDKM) and the Scan 15M. Very big difference in cost between those. I will be using active/dsp processing so a little more to work with for correction, but still... the breakup at 7-8khz looks pretty significant.- Bottom

OK- it's not quite yet two months out, and all my medical personnel, surgeon included, are somewhat amazed at the pace of my recovery- the six week home care nursing/PT people called it quits at two weeks, because I beyond what people usually can do at six weeks.
I followed all the medication instructions scrupulously, but I also put together a nutritional support program that really seemed to work- and fixed some other stuff incidentally. That old Who rock opera comes to mind, "Miracle Cure". I'm sure walking Masha 3 miles every day by the 3rd week didn't hurt either.
This doesn't mean I'm at 100% yet, and I'm still observing movement precautions and paying close attention to what I feel, but frankly, having seen Beverly through two of these, I'm pretty amazed and pleased. She was rather surprised, too, because she felt she was a star healer, and acknowledged I was considerably faster- even by the 3rd day.
Let's hear it for high dosage liposomal vitamin C, as well as the other stuff. Now, if only there was some way to put it all in a bottle and sell it.
One of the nurses at the hospice last week, who's husband is about 15 years younger than me, had the surgery at about the same time, and she said, seeing me bring Masha into the facility (with her being very excited and pulling hard because she could smell Beverly) I was doing way better- thought her husband was a bit of a baby compared to how I was moving around and handling a strong 65 lb Husky.
Blessings be that I was in the right head space to figure that stuff out and get these results... now I'm looking forward to the VFT1200 again...
BTW, Beverly, stubborn to the end, didn't pass on Sunday, as the doctors predicted, but held out until 8 minutes after midnight Monday morning. She had been in very steep decline last week from Wednesday on, not communicative on Thursday, and basically comatose Friday through Sunday. I'm glad this is over for her, but sad that she left so many things to the end and didn't get to say her good byes properly to her children.the AudioWorx

Jon,
I'm so sorry to hear about Beverly and it seems like just yesterday that you mentioned she wasn't feeling right and felt she might have cancer. My father went from bicycling 30 miles with his bike group on a Saturday, feeling bloated on Sunday, went to the hospital on Monday where the Drs. diagnosed cancer and gave him a year to live. On Tuesday they gave him 6 months, then Wednesday they gave him a month. He died Thursday night, 5 minutes after we arrived at the hospital.
If this helps you regarding her children, even though we didn't get to say a final good bye, we know the love and close relationship we had with my dad was enough for us.

There are some happier stories, too, though- a friend at work's father seems to have beaten colon cancer finally last year, and at the age of 79 to boot! That was really good news for her in what was otherwise a difficult time.the AudioWorx
