Loudspeaker drivers are like celebrities... small issues and errors can inspire large effects in the reputation. And cause many to overlook nascent capabilities.

This is merely a sounding board for a potential system design using something old, something new, something borrowed, and something... no, not blue, but black!

If this implies an unholy marriage of sorts, well, that may be in some ways appropriate.

    Something old...

    Black is back...

This system design will also borrow substantially from the ET CCT Supreme developed for the Chancellor. But this concept with the E810HE-44 would utilize it in an appropriate manner- below 250-300Hz, where the rise in harmonic distortion from inductivity modulation will not compromise overall performance. Dayton advertising this as an E.R.S.

an Extended Range Subwoofer (ERS). It was engineered to produce premium controlled subwoofer performance, while simultaneously achieving a smooth extended high frequency response.

This was a substantial marketing misstep in my belief, based on both 3rd party reviewers and my own testing.

However, the fundamental BL product characteristics are most attractive for a compact high performance woofer in a more restricted range, capable of surprising LF levels.

    And Kms performance

Used within a more restrictive frequency range, not that of a 7" two way or conventional 3 way, superior results may well be possible...

Of course, I must still consult with my Master before beginning development efforts in earnest...

Something old, something new, something borrowed... something blue?!
            by JonMarsh
When I started describing the new test cart I was putting together to another member via messages, the first thing that popped into my mind was this old English saying about what a bride needs- I left off the bit about six pence in her shoe, because inflation has certainly changed that number quite...

Speaker Battle: KEF XQ5 vs. Dynaudio Audience 82
            by jbreezy5
This is a review/comparison of the KEF XQ5's with Dynaudio Audience 82's:

I purchased a pair of KEF XQ5's used yesterday for $1,000 from Theatrical Concepts Inc. on Craig's List. They seem to be fully broken in; they lack the typical signs to indicate otherwise. Initially I was not sure...

A new Center Channel Design study...
            by JonMarsh
OK, folks, this is HT Guide, and someone reminded me that my moderator contract requires me to design a new center channel speaker once every ten years! And I'm in violation of that, as the NeoD CC was launched in 2007! My, how time flies! Well, I'd better get busy...

            The funny thing...
