Not home audio related, but trying to upgrade our cars sub and have driver questions.

So I'm trying to upgrade the sub in the stock location of our Ford Ecosport. It's got a little 5" "sub" in the back in a plastic box, and I've been contemplating maybe trying to put a Dayton Epique 5.5" in the stock enclosure. The volume should be about right, although the box is technically ported and I have no idea to what, or what the full volume is but the 5.5" Eipique has 14mm of xmax and would work nicely off the little amp I have and I know I could make it fit the box.

The other idea I've had is to get a polycam license and try 3D scanning the location where it goes to see if maybe I could build an enclosure that fits there, and use the scan to calculate the volume and what not. I have the iPhone 15 Pro which has lidar and what not so I think it'll give me dimensions and so on. I'm not entirely sure, the stock sub is so pathetic the Epique 5.5" would definitely be an upgrade. I'll post a pic of the box and the stock driver.

Current enclosure looks ported. Guessing you would seal that off? Might be a weird pesky response otherwise.

Could consider the Tang Band W5-1138SMF as a more affordable option. Pretty sure I have that in a small home sub that works pretty darn well.

I mean the epique is only $100 bucks and like small enclosures both sealed and ported. And yeah it is ported I’m not sure if there is a way to figure out the tuning. Looking at the original driver it can’t be all that great lol.

Maybe this weekend I’ll pull that panel back off and see what I can figure out. There’s not a ton of room but maybe I can make a baffle that fits and fiberglass the back part of the enclosure.
