Well they sound fantastic to say the least... I don't want to say to much really until I give them a good weeks worth of playing. I've put about 8 or so hours on them today. Unfortunately I have to hit the bed early because I have to be to work at 4am.
As for the color I do like the light color but at the same time I think I'd like the blue that I'm thinking of as well if I can actually get the finish that I want to go for. Also the blue should hide a lot of the splintering crap of the bamboo.- Bottom

Yeah......a bit unsure about moving them...these things are freaking heavy! Got to be at least 100lbs. I guess if there was me and someone to help it wouldn't be so bad but they are just so awkward and heavy haha. Regardless I don't think it will really be that big of a problem getting them to Bills as Bob already said he would help me. Just going to have to setup a day I suppose haha. I'm going to be picking up this new preamp/dac/Headphone amp thing very soon probably. It uses the AD1955, John (guy that was at the second to last get together) just bought one after me talking him into it haha but he loves it just got it the other day so I def want one now.

Ok I gotta chime in here and make mention of this DAC that Doug just referred to. If you click on his link, you see that it's called the Yulong DAH1 "mark"...(not mark I, mark II, just 'mark'). I've had this unit since yesterday afternoon, and already it has resurected new hope inside me for digital sound reproduction. Not only is this an incredible dac, the headphone amp section is amazing (I recently began a minor venture into head-fi). I knew it was a gamble going with this unit, but it turned out to be a good one. I only have about 10 hours max on this thing, and it sounds great. I expect it to sound even better with more burn-in. I prefer the sound through USB fed from my laptop reading flac files over the digital coax output on both my sony and NAD dvd players. I think the transports in both are absolute garbage, because the sound was very brittle and grainy (probably a result of jitter). I really think hard drive playback can make a difference.
Anyhow, I think we need to get together to hear Doug's speakers and my new DAC. The speakers look great and I look forward to hearing them. I also look fowards to seeing how well my $320 cheap Chinese DAC holds out against $1000+ cd players lol.

Thanks. I posted a little review somewhere but looks like I forgot to here so I'll just paste it in.
Well I've got my amp hooked up to my laptop now through my Audigy 2 sound card. It sounds quite a bit better then the other sound card but it also has a bit of a harsh top end. It's not horrible and listenable still but its an artifact of the sound card. Anyways back to my point. I'm listening to Pink Floyd - The Wall and I can not say enough about the dynamics of this speaker. Even on an album like there where its not horribly bass heavy there are just major dynamics in all aspects. The sound stage is really starting to open up as well. Whatever I end up doing about a DAC for my computer should add a lot to the depth and soundstage though. Regardless these speakers are just amazing to say the least, especially for the cost. You can get better for sure but probably not for less then twice the cost of these. And that's DIY costs... as far as a commercial speaker I don't even know where I could start....would be several thousand dollars though for sure.
My favorite thing about this CD is it has these little snippets of like very thin and faint things like music or sound effects and then all the sudden the music kicks in and the soundstage is huge compared to it. Really puts sound stage and what not into perspective.- Bottom

Umm well probably somwhere around 1300-1400 depending on what you do and how you go about building it. If you build Jed's cabinets going to be much easier and a bit cheaper probably then what I ended up going through. They are certainly worth the price though! They sound excellent.- Bottom

Hi Greg,Originally posted by GregLettI have to say they do look like commericially made speakers. If I didn't follow this thread I would swear you purchased them from somewhere.
Do you mind me asking what is the cost to build one of those?
I have pricing for the kits on my website. At some point I'd like to have finished options for customers. I do have 3 sources for cabinets now. Lee Taylor, a local guy, and Elemental Designs all have expressed interest in producing cabinets for this speaker line. I'm open to suggestions and new opportunities.

I like the look. I could never build one, but I wouldn't mind trying to sell them.Originally posted by JedHi Greg,

A member here drew the cabs up for Dougie. He then had the parts CNC for his build. They turned out great. I'm not sure how much it would cost for me to get curved cabinets built. Probably a lot more than the $350 quote per cabinet from my local cabinet builder (square sides).
Greg, if you want to work out something to sell my speakers shoot me an email.

Yeah I started on the cabinets my self and then someone helped me out cause they were more familiar with solid works. I found someone online to CNC the parts. I think I ended up spending probably 300 bucks or so on the cabinets.- Bottom
