    Receiver as an amp

I have an opportunity to purchase an SSP 300 but cant't afford the matching CA 5100 at the same time. I would like to get the processor now to solve alot of switching issues I have with my present HT receiver (Arcam AVR 200). Presently my receiver does not have jacks for component video, so I have to run the component video from their sources to my LCD TV which means fideling with remotes to select proper inputs on the TV etc etc. So my priority is the processor to sort all this out. So for cost saving I would like to use my present receiver as a 5 channel amp (I know I can hear it now, sound quality, performance.....). After going through the owners manual, I know it can be used as a stand alone preamp and it can be combined with another amp to bi-amp but can it be used just as an amp? If it can, is it just the normal wiring from the SSp 300, nothing changes there?

Yes, you have inputs for the 5 channels plus sub.

Dumb question, but five interconnects from processior to Arcam receiver and then sub from processor to sub input as usual. I presume that way I would still have control function from the processor. While doing this, is there any benefit of using different price points of interconnects for these five cables (ie main L/R use top of the line cable, centre would be a little less and the surrounds would be a "Good" cable or should all five be the same quality.

Ideally all 5 shoould be the same. I would invest in some decent cables. Have a look at the CAT cable silvercats.

          Low/Dollar Receiver (as processor) options
          by tpremo55
I'm assembling iteration one of a home theater and am looking for a low dollar pre-pro. I've looked at the emotiva UMC-200, but the lack of analog video inputs makes it less interesting to me. Good pre-pros that meet my needs start around $1000 and I'd rather spend the money on a projector.

H/K receiver as processor and Rotel Amp.
          by Alfonso
Sience we don´t know the exact date Rotel will relesase thier new equipment line to the public, i´m thinkin about getting a new H/K AVR-247 and use it as processor while waiting for the real one from Rotel. It´s an inexpensive solution and the 247 have a lot of features compared to other receivers...

          New SSP processor
          by KRC
Hey guys, there is talk of new Classe processors, SSP 700 and SSP 800 coming out in the spring. Is this rumour? If true will they remove the SSP 300 or keep it as the entry level? I am considering buying the SSP 300, but I would hate to buy a product that is going out of the line. I got caught with...

I just came across this while looking for Classe pics. By looking at the last picture it looks like a prototype actually exisits....I wonder if it worked and if so where it is now.

At $25,000 it would have never been in my price range, but...

5.1 and inwall - What Rotel do I need
          by KRC
Searching for a little advice. I have a 5.1 system running off a AV receiver and am presently doing some home renovations and thought it would be a great idea to have some B&W in wall speakers in the rest of the house. Thinking one in bathroom, master bedroom, office maybe! I have heard of two...
