Hey y'all, long time no see. I've been futzing around with no surround sound speakers for a while and finally just decided I want to throw something together real quick with some Tang Band W4-1337 drivers I have. Since they're full range, I could technically just mount them in a box and be done correct? I'd love to make them as small as possible. According to the spec sheet it just needs a box that's 0.1 cu ft vented. Does anyone have a minimalist design for this already?

Well, if you flush mount them in a wall, then you could just throw them together without a crossover. But if you put them in a box, you'll need to consider baffle step compensation, considering the dimensions of the enclosure. Often you don't need the full 6dB, but expect to use at least 5 dB. That's basically a series combination of L and R in parallel. Easy to simulate, probably the fastest way to get there without measurements is to use a Tool like VituixCAD which includes driver and enclosure modeling, and work up the BSC compensation network from the simulated response based on enclosure dimensions.the AudioWorx

If you're mounting them on a wall, in a small box then you will need far less baffle step compensation. Maybe just 1dB or none at all sometimes. These are only for surround effects which, as things go, is a fairly undemanding application. What you screamin' for, every five minutes there's a bomb or something. I'm leavin' Bzzzzzzz!

by Scott.EyreHi I am planning on making a 3way speaker set using wood turned enclosures.
I came across this video
and it inspired me to do a 3 way, starting with a mid driver, then extending and purchasing a tweeter, then when the budget allows finishing it off with a woofer...-

by gfcf42489When I see pics of Rotel components under the hood, like their preamps and CD players, they always seem quite bare in comparison with similar offerings from Marantz, NAD, etc. I suspect this has to do with their "minimalist design" philosophy. I think Classe has this same approach in regards...-

by MazerothI visited Paul K. recently to listen to his fantastic speakers and while I was there picked up a pair of the new Tang Band 25-1744S 25cm ceramic dome tweeters to measure. I figured this would be a great chance to take some measurements with my new ECM8000 that I had calibrated by Kim Girardin. The tweeters...-

by OperandiAnyone have experience with the 4" Titanium Tang Band W4-1337SA yet?
I was looking using this driver full-range for the front three channels in a 5.1 system as weeding present. Something sweet and simple so to speak, but looking at Zaph's measurements (& comments) it looks like...-
