    Difference between MTM and MT

Is the main difference between a MTM and MT that a MTM has better off axis response when placed vertical? Also, because usually wired in parallel, it is more efficient? Does MTM have easier time filling large room? Any other difference between the two? Thanks folks.

MTM's are very good for the extra SPL headroom. That is they're main strength. And while they have a very symmetric vertical polar response there are some concerns about onaxis combing between woofers and uneven response offaxis again because of the woofers. Some people will not design MTM because of this, while others accept the *possibly* audible weakness in return for greater sensitivity and SPL capability.

I'm somewhere in between. I'd like to try the 5.25" (or maybe 4.5") Peerless Nomex woofers with a Vifa D26NC55 between them, with all the flanges touching. I think you could get the strengths of MTM without much of the downside that way. Maybe that will be project #4 after the PA dipoles and hard/soft bookshelf shootout...so maybe some time in 2008 :B

Hopefully someone else more knowledgeable will chime in on the subject.
