    Hanging speakers?

I know thomas has done this for his rears but I was wondering about my soon to be built HT room and my maggies. What I was thinking is why not hang all the speakers upsidedown from the ceiling so they would be isolated from the walls and secondly I wouldn't have to have cables running across the floor (they'll be hidden in the false ceiling....thoughts?

Andrew, I used that approach for my rear center channel speakers in our HT room in our old house. This photo shows the arrangement. Admittedly the VRS Pros aren't the same size as the Maggies, but the arrangement worked well for me.

Some people feel that hanging Maggies messes up the sound. Not as much bass reinforcement off the drywall ceiling as there is from a more solid floor. However I haven't found any problems with my upside down MMGs used as rears.

Currently they're literally just hung like a picture frame. Single wire in a "V" attached to one of the metal feet mounting screws on each side. The finished product will be a short piece of small chain attached to hooks in a ceiling joist and again into the mounting screws on the back of the MMG's.

Since the load is static vs dynamic, there isn't a great need for a lot of holding power. So lighter hardware is sufficient depending on the weight of the speaker

          In-ceiling speaker options
          by Mazeroth
My wife and I are closing on our first house tomorrow and I can't wait to get started with the audio! The first project I'm going to do is installing in-ceiling speakers in the bedroom, directly above the bed, trying to create the best stereo image as possible. I'm not sure how easy it's going to...

          PT-AE700U upside down from ceiling
          by JSMD
I bought a Panasonic PT-AE700U projector, which I must mount on the ceiling of my home theater.

I understand that many projectors have anamorphic lens and the image is straight not when the projector is positioned in the center of the screen, but when the projector is close to bottom...

any ideas on hanging an htm2 from the ceiling?
          by sikoniko
My dealer is offering me a good price on an htm2, which ironically is the same one I ordered before I changed my mind and went w/ the htm1. I am seriously considering it for my room to create a 6.1 setup. The problem is finding a place to mount it. My options are as follows:

          1. Find some...

          Speaker hung from the ceiling
          by spadez
          Hi,

I was just wondering, is it possible to mount a speaker so that it hangs from the ceiling? I was reading up on the importance of decoupling speakers from the ground, so I thought a speaker hanging from the ceiling would work quite well, and may even look pretty cool if done nicely....

          Maggies for me?
          by JeremyG
So I took my wife to an audio shop the other day, and we listened to some Magnepan 1.7s. They sounded wonderful as expected. Not being in the market for anything new, we walked out. The wife asked how much they were, and I told her we'd have to sell what we have to afford them. She then started jumping...
