Tough to tell with those particular pictures.

Yes, I believe in a low-grade backlighting behind a TV display, which can alleviate eye strain. However, I shoot for pure functionality for my own setups, and don't use it myself, shooting for an ideal complete darkness.

No, I don't like colored lights for HT use. Alters the perceived picture. Save it for souped-up car competitions.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

Well the picture is way over exposed, so I imagine in person they aren't near as bright. Really they should help with contrast but it just depends on how distracting they are. If they are much dimmer then they appear then it would be ok.

Phillips did a similar thing with a TV to increase the perceived contrast and it works pretty good.

I'm partially with Chris here. If you're going to back-light your display, go with 6500K lighting (ideally with a flat black or as close to neutral grey wall).

If you want to do coloured accent lighting in your theatre it can be a nice touch on the walls by the seating, under any raised platforms/steps etc. But in my opinion... keep it the HELL AWAY from your screen

Need Help On Dimming Home Theater Lighting
                  by schalliol
                  Here goes my first post!

My house was just built and I didn't have the ability to change the lighting system upon build, yet I would like to add a scene controlling dimming system to my home theater/great room that also features a remote. I'm thinking about it now and I really would...

Let's start with what I like to call "Lighting Scheme 1"

I will be purchasing a 6500K flourescent bias light to go behind my 51" Hitachi RPTV. It will either be a Cinema Quest Ideal Lume or I'm going to investigate how close to that quality a friend of mine in the lighting...

                  by Chris D
Well, I've reached a new level of craziness. I just bought my first three DVD-A albums, but still don't own a DVD-A or SACD player. (sigh) By signing up for Silverline Records' newsletter, they sent me a free DVD-A sampler, and a Best Buy coupon. You could get $2 off Silverline DVD-A albums, up to a...

                  Alright...

So I've been looking at trying to illuminate the stairway down into the gameroom/HT room. The hallway upstairs has a light (about 8 to 10ft away from the stairs), but at the bottom of the stairs there is no "direct" lighting onto the stairs. Which makes the stairs...

This isn't entirely HT specific (though some of them will be in the HT) but I'm hoping some of the pro electricians/contractors/lighting guys etc that sometimes run through here might offer some pro advice on recommended companies. Knowledgeable "regular Joe's" advice is welcome too :T...
