Static / Popping from PC Speakers

I have a Dell Dimension XPS R400 with an Altec Lansing ACS Dolby Pro-Logic Speaker System, which has a small subwoofer and two desktop surround type speakers. I cannot leave the speakers turned up because of an annoying popping / static sound that comes from them all the time. I've had this system a couple years, and this started a few weeks ago and hasn't stopped.

Any troubleshooting ideas? I don't even know where to begin. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Greg

Greg, my only guess is that computer components are typically noisy to begin with. You could try swappng your sound card into another PCI slot. Apperently some slots are noiser than others, Why it would have just shown up, I don't know.

Certainly any PC I've ever heard has always been noisy and can not compare to audiophile equipment.

If i turn up my volume on my new speakers now with nothing playing, I hear what seems to be static from the fans or Hard drives.

I just purchased a Rotel RA-1062 integrated amp with the RCD-1072 CD player. I connected them to a pair of Pennaudio Rebel 2 speakers with Audioquest Type 4 speaker cable. Out of thre blue I've got static and scratching sounds from the RR channel.

Best part is that you don't even need to be in a mutli-channel mode. That's right - it even spits static when 2-channel bypass is selected.

In multi-channel the RR output is reduced and the noise...

      Hello,

I have an RSX-1055 with the speaker popping bug when changing sources and surround modes. I installed firmware 2.26, which is supposed to fix this popping bug. However, it did not. In fact, it had no effect on the popping in my system whatsoever. The full version of the firmware...

I bought a 1066 a couple of weeks ago and noticed today that I have a popping coming from all of my speakers about every 3 seconds. I turned to volume all the way off and the popping is still there. I put my hand on the edge of the woofer on my SVS and you can feel the speaker move when popping! I purchased...

      Rotel popping conclusion

I have been steadily reading and trying to follow all the various messages regarding the popping sound with various Rotel products.

Can anyone comment if this problem has been successfully corrected yet, or is the solution still in progress?

      Also, just to clarify, does...
