    Power Supplies???

Today I tried to order a super quite 300 watt power supply from a company called "Fulton/Source" but once I got on the phone I got the question "do you need a standard ATX power supply , or a...I think she called it an "energy saver", or maybe it was "green" power supply, anyway it had to do with saving energy.
I'm using an ASUS P3V4X motherboard at this time, but plan to build a better htpc latter this year or early next. I want to move this power supply over to my next htpc...does it matter which power supply I get?
    Thanks Kenny

Do they have a web page you can check out? I've been using Antec power supplies lately, 300W and 400W ATX. PC Power and Cooling is also good, locally designed (they use our Infineon CoolMOS), but more expensive- one of their silencer series might be the ticket for HTPC. They have much quieter fans, give specific dB ratings.
The ideal supply would be one with just a passive heatink, and no fan, but that's not possible in a standard ATX box format. Supplies with variable speed fans, and rated for more power than you need, will usually work well for HTPC, because most of the time they're not working hard.
Energy star rating comes from having standby power of 1W or less; in my opinion, that's TOTALLY unimportant. That isn't going to help matters even here in energy starved California.
Once I turn my stero on with the Aragon Palladium class A monoblocks, energy efficiency is out the window, anyway!

For a variety of power supplies, you might check out the hardware section of this web site; they're where I buy a lot of my computer bits, including MB's, processors, cases, power supplies:
