Will an HD TIVO Become Obsolete Within 5 Years? Etc.

I am using a Comcast HD cable box/dual tuner DVR. I can get the $300 HD TIVO box and a lifetime service package for $700.

Will the HD TIVO become obsolete within 5 years? Are there going to be changes to HD cable service within the next 5 years that would make the HD TIVO obsolete?

Some one said that if there are future upgrades or if I need a new TIVO box, the lifetime service may not carry over if I need a new box, or if there are upgrades.

The interface is attrative. My sister and my neice love TIVO. I am paying $12 per month for the HD cable box/dual tuner DVR from Comcast. If I can get at least 5 years out of this ($700 TIVO) deal, I will probably go for it.

    Thanks in advance.

I would think as long as the TiVo supports Cable Cards, that it would continue to work.

TiVo making a comeback at my house!

I decided to switch things up with TV. I'm diversifying so to speak. I'll have some DirecTV, and same cable. I cut my Directv package down to the lowest available, and kept Showtime. I'm saving approximately $70.00 a month on it by only turning HBO off, and loosing a bunch of nothing channels I...

      TiVo, An Early Adopter's Tale
      by Lexman
Folks, it's been maybe 8-10 months since TiVo was introduced, on the heals of Replay TV. At least Replay was advertised as " Coming" , some time before I had heard of TiVo. Actually, I think the first I heard of TiVo, was the night I bought mine. How's that for a spontaneous...

      TiVo, a class act
      by Lex
As an early adopter of TiVo, my unit is woefully short on HD space. I'm well aware that there's ways to increase the drive capacity. However, I have neither the time, knowledge, nor inclination to go down this road myself.

While considering a used 80 hour model with lifetime subscription,...

      My TIVO Upgrade - It's A Snap!!!
      by David Meek
I've been kicking around the idea of adding more capacity to my 2-year-old TIVO for several months. I finally broke down and ordered an upgrade kit for my HDR31203 model from Weaknees. At $179 including shipping, I got a 120 Gbyte hard drive, a mounting bracket, the necessary nuts 'n bolts and a Torx...

RSP 1570 HDMI handshaking Issue With Tivo?
      by fhsun
I recently exchanged my cable/DVR box for a Tivo HD. The cable company installed 2 Cable Cards in the Tivo which eliminates the need for the cablebox.

I connect the RG6 cable from the wall directly to Tivo, then the Tivo directly to the RSP 1570 via HDMI.

      I am occassionally...
