After deciding that I "need" a wireless router to expand my ever changing pc landscape at home I've short-listed a few routers that I think are suitable for the task. One of the models is the Linksys WRT54G, but from a number of reviews I've read from newegg.com and other sites the version 5 of this model is garbage because of the change in firmware (Linux to Vx, I think). Not being a real PC-Wiz I'm scared and confused, all I need it to do is distribute 4 wired connections and 2 wireless which I believe it is built to do. Does anyone have any inside knowledge or experience with the WRT54G?

Well dyazdani, your comment is the same as everyone else who has a pre-V5 router, "its rock solid". Do you know what version of firmware yours is using? That seems to be the issue. Drop outs and general patchy connectivity are the result of the new firmware.Canadian heart, Aussie home!- Bottom

Well I bought the router this morning for AU$90. Set it up in 5 min after I got home this afternoon and now I'm using my laptop infront of the TV without a single wire in site. I have my other 2 PCs wired up to it and I can't complain. Fast and secure. I look forward to many years of good service.
Thanks to all you blokes for the advise :T big help all 'round.Canadian heart, Aussie home!- Bottom

I am hoping someone out there can save me...or more specifically, a friend of mine. He has a Compaq laptop (I know!), and is desperately trying to set up wireless networking. He started with a Netgear router/PCMCIA card. I figured this would be great since I have a Netgear setup and it works flawlessly.... -

I was able to link our upstairs Computer and Laptop to the wireless network.
However the XboX 360 will not gain an IP address.

by David MeekOkay, I'm an old wired-network kind of guy that wants to go wireless. Here's my embarassingly simple question for the night: Will a wireless broadband router like the Linksys WRT350N support two wireless PCs simultaneously, or is it one wireless connection at a time? I'll go hide behind a tree while... - Loading...
